The word of יהוה that came to Tsefanya, son of Kushi, son of Gid'alya, son of Amarya, son of Ḥizqiya, in the days of Yoshiyahu, son of Amon, king of Yehudah.

I will completely sweep away from the face of the ground, declares יהוה.

I will sweep away man and beast; I will sweep away the birds of the sky and the fish of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from the face of the ground, declares יהוה.

And I will stretch out my hand against Yehudah and against all the inhabitants of Yerushalayim; and I will cut off from this place the remnant of Ba'al, the name of the idolatrous priests, with the priests.

And those who bow down on the roofs to the host of the heavens, and those who bow down and swear to יהוה, and those who swear by their king.

And those who turn back from following יהוה, and who have not sought יהוה nor inquired of him.

Be silent before the Adonai יהוה, for the day of יהוה is near; for יהוה has prepared a sacrifice; he has consecrated his invited guests.

And it will be on the day of יהוה's sacrifice, I will punish the officials and the king's sons and all who are clothed in foreign attire.

And I will punish on that day everyone who leaps over the threshold, who fills the house of their master with violence and deceit.

And it will be on that day, declares יהוה, a cry from the Fish Gate, and a wail from the Second Quarter, and a great crash from the hills.

Wail, inhabitants of the Mortar, for all the people of Canaan are silenced; all who carry silver are cut off.

And it will be at that time, I will search Yerushalayim with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their hearts, 'יהוה will not do good, nor will he do evil.'

And their wealth will become plunder, and their houses a desolation; and they will build houses, but not inhabit them; and they will plant vineyards, but not drink their wine.

The great day of יהוה is near; it is near and hastens greatly; the voice of the day of יהוה is bitter; the mighty man cries out there.

That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness.

A day of trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high corners.

And I will bring distress upon mankind, and they will walk like the blind, because they have sinned against יהוה; and their blood will be poured out like dust, and their flesh like dung.

Even their silver, even their gold, will not be able to deliver them on the day of יהוה's wrath; and by the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed; for he will make a complete, sudden end of all the inhabitants of the earth.
