And Boaz went up to the gate and sat there, and behold, the redeemer passed by, of whom Boaz had spoken. And he said, 'Turn aside, sit here, so-and-so.' And he turned aside and sat.

And he took ten men from the elders of the city and said, 'Sit here.' And they sat.

And he said to the redeemer, 'The parcel of field that belonged to our brother 'Elimélekh, No'omi has sold, she who returned from the field of Mo'av.

And I said, 'I will inform your ear, saying, 'Buy it before the inhabitants and before the elders of my people.' If you will redeem, redeem, and if not, tell me, and I will know,' for there is no one besides you to redeem, and I am after you.' And he said, 'I will redeem.'

And Boaz said, 'On the day you buy the field from the hand of No'omi and from Ruth the Mo'avite, the wife of the dead man, you have bought to raise the name of the dead man upon his inheritance.'

And the redeemer said, 'I cannot redeem for myself, lest I spoil my inheritance. Redeem for yourself my redemption, for I cannot redeem.'

Now this was the custom formerly in Yisra'el concerning redemption and concerning exchange, to confirm every matter: a man would draw off his sandal and give it to his neighbor, and this was the testimony in Yisra'el.

And the redeemer said to Boaz, 'Buy it for yourself.' And he drew off his sandal.

And Boaz said to the elders and all the people, 'You are witnesses today that I have bought all that belonged to 'Elimélekh and all that belonged to Kilyon and Maḥlon from the hand of No'omi.

And also Ruth the Mo'avite, the wife of Maḥlon, I have bought to be my wife, to raise the name of the dead man upon his inheritance, and the name of the dead man will not be cut off from among his brothers and from the gate of his place. You are witnesses today.'

And all the people who were at the gate and the elders said, 'May יהוה give the woman who is coming into your house like Raḥel and like Leh'ah, who both built the house of Yisra'el. And may you do valiantly in Efratah and call a name in Bethlehem.

And may your house be like the house of Perets, whom Tamar bore to Yehudah, from the offspring that יהוה will give you from this young woman.'

And Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife, and he went in to her, and יהוה gave her conception, and she bore a son.

And the women said to No'omi, 'Blessed be יהוה, who has not left you without a redeemer today, and may his name be called in Yisra'el.

And he will be to you a restorer of life and a sustainer of your old age, for your daughter-in-law, whom you love, has borne him, who is better to you than seven sons.'

And No'omi took the child and placed him in her lap and became his nurse.

And the neighbors gave him a name, saying, 'A son has been born to No'omi.' And they called his name 'Oved. He is the father of Yishay, the father of David.

And these are the generations of Perets: Perets fathered Ḥetsron.

And Ḥetsron fathered Ram, and Ram fathered 'Ammînadab.

And 'Ammînadab fathered Naḥshon, and Naḥshon fathered Salmah.

And Salmah fathered Boaz, and Boaz fathered 'Oved.

And 'Oved fathered Yishay, and Yishay fathered David.
