To the director, over Shoshannim. A psalm of David.

Save me, Elohim, for waters have come up to my neck.

I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no standing place. I have come into the depths of waters, and a flood has swept me away.

I am weary from my calling; my throat is hoarse. My eyes fail, while I wait for my Elohim.

Those who hate me without cause are more than the hairs of my head. My enemies who seek to destroy me are powerful, though I did not steal; then I must restore.

Elohim, you know my foolishness, and my guilt is not hidden from you.

Let not those who hope in you, Adonai יהוה Tzva'ot, be put to shame because of me. Let not those who seek you, Elohei Yisra'el, be disgraced.

For it is for your sake that I have borne reproach; shame has covered my face.

I have become a stranger to my brothers, and an alien to the sons of my mother.

For the zeal of your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach you have fallen upon me.

And I wept with my soul fasting, and it became a reproach to me.

And I made sackcloth my clothing, and I became a proverb to them.

Those who sit in the gate talk about me, and the drunkards sing songs about me.

But as for me, my prayer is to you, יהוה, at an acceptable time. Elohim, in your abundant mercy, answer me with the truth of your salvation.

Rescue me from the mud, and let me not sink. Let me be delivered from my enemies and from the deep waters.

Let not the flood sweep me away, nor let the deep swallow me, nor let the well close its mouth over me.

Answer me, יהוה, for your mercy is good. According to your abundant compassion, turn to me.

And do not hide your face from your servant, for I am in distress. Answer me quickly.

Draw near to my soul, redeem it. For the sake of my enemies, deliver me.

You know my reproach, my shame, and my disgrace. All my oppressors are before you.

Reproach has broken my heart, and I am weak. I looked for sympathy, but there was none, and for comforters, but I found none.

They put poison in my food, and they gave me vinegar to drink when I was thirsty.

Let their table be a snare before them, and their prosperity a trap.

Let their eyes be darkened so they cannot see, and make their loins perpetually weak.

Pour out your indignation upon them, and let your anger overtake them.

Let their encampment be desolate; let no one dwell in their tents.

For you are the one they persecute, and they tell of the pain of those you have struck.

Add guilt to their guilt, and let them not come into your righteousness.

Let them be blotted out from the book of life, and not be written with the righteous.

But I am afflicted and in pain. Your salvation, Elohim, will lift me up.

I will praise the name of Elohim with a song, and I will magnify him with thanksgiving.

This will please יהוה more than an ox, a bull with horns and hooves.

Let the humble see and rejoice. You who seek Elohim, let your hearts live.

For יהוה hears the needy, and he does not despise his prisoners.

Let the heavens and the earth praise him, the seas and everything that moves in them.

For Elohim will save Tsiyon and build the cities of Yehudah, and they will dwell there and inherit it.

And the offspring of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell in it.
