My son, if you have pledged for your neighbor, if you have struck hands for a stranger,

you are trapped by the words of your mouth, you are caught by the words of your mouth.

Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, because you have come into the hand of your neighbor: go, humble yourself, and plead with your neighbor.

Do not give sleep to your eyes, and slumber to your eyelids.

Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hand, and like a bird from the hand of the trapper.

Go to the ant, lazy one; see its ways, and be wise.

Which has no commander, officer, or ruler,

prepares its food in summer, gathers its provisions in harvest.

How long will you lie down, lazy one? When will you rise from your sleep?

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of hands to lie down.

And your poverty will come like a traveler, and your need like an armed man.

A worthless person, a man of wickedness, walks with crookedness of mouth.

He winks with his eyes, signals with his feet, points with his fingers.

Deceit is in his heart; he plots evil at all times; he sends disputes.

Therefore, his disaster will come suddenly; he will be shattered instantly, and there is no healing.

There are six things that יהוה hates, and seven that are an abomination to his soul:

haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that plots wicked schemes, feet that are quick to run to evil,

a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Keep, my son, your father's command, and do not forsake your mother's teaching.

Bind them to your heart always; tie them around your neck.

When you walk, they will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; and when you wake, they will talk with you.

For the commandment is a lamp, and the teaching is light, and the rebukes of discipline are the way of life.

To guard you from an evil woman, from the flattering tongue of a foreigner.

Do not lust after her beauty in your heart, and do not let her eyelids capture you.

For the price of a prostitute is a loaf of bread, but a married woman hunts for a precious soul.

Can a man carry fire in his chest, and his clothes not be burned?

Can a man walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

So is the one who goes in to his neighbor's wife; whoever touches her will not be innocent.

They do not despise a thief if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry.

But if he is found, he will pay sevenfold; he will give all the wealth of his house.

He who commits adultery with a woman lacks sense; he who does it destroys his soul.

He will find wounds and disgrace, and his shame will not be wiped away.

For jealousy is the rage of a man, and he will not spare on the day of vengeance.

He will not accept any ransom; he will not be satisfied, though you give him many gifts.
