Vision of Ovadiah. Thus says Adonai יהוה concerning Edom: A report we have heard from יהוה, and an envoy among the nations has been sent. Rise up, and let us rise against her for war.

Behold, small I have made you among the nations; despised you are greatly.

The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose dwelling is high. Who says in his heart, 'Who will bring me down to the earth?'

Though you exalt yourself like the eagle, and though you set your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares יהוה.

If thieves came to you, if plunderers of the night, how you have been ruined! Would they not steal enough? If grape gatherers came to you, would they not leave gleanings?

How Esav has been searched out! His hidden treasures have been sought out!

To the border they have sent you out, all your treaty allies. Your allies have deceived you; they have prevailed against you. Your bread eaters will set a trap for you; there is no understanding in him.

Will it not be on that day, declares יהוה, that I will destroy the wise men from Edom, and understanding from the mountain of Esav?

And your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, so that every man from the mountain of Esav will be cut off by slaughter.

Because of violence to your brother Ya'aqov, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.

On the day you stood opposite, on the day strangers carried off his wealth, and foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Yerushalayim, even you were like one of them.

And you should not look on the day of your brother, on the day of his misfortune, and you should not rejoice over the sons of Yehudah in the day of their destruction, and you should not boast greatly with your mouth in the day of distress.

You should not enter the gate of my people in the day of their calamity. You should not look, even you, on his suffering in the day of his calamity, and you should not stretch out your hand against his wealth in the day of his calamity.

And you should not stand at the crossroads to cut off his fugitives, and you should not shut up his survivors in the day of distress.

For the day of יהוה is near upon all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you; your deeds will return upon your own head.

For as you drank on my holy mountain, all the nations will drink continually; yes, they will drink and swallow, and they will be as though they had never been.

But on Mount Tsiyon there will be deliverance, and it will be holy, and the house of Ya'aqov will possess their possessions.

And the house of Ya'aqov will be fire, and the house of Yosef a flame, and the house of Esav for stubble; they will burn against them and devour them, and no survivor will remain of the house of Esav, for יהוה has spoken.

And those of the Negev will possess the mountain of Esav, and those of the lowlands the Pelishtim; and they will possess the fields of Efrayim and the fields of Shomron, and Binyamin will possess Gil'ad.

And the exiles of this host of the sons of Yisra'el, who are among the Kana'anim, as far as Tsarefat, and the exiles of Yerushalayim who are in Sefarad, will possess the cities of the Negev.

And saviors will go up on Mount Tsiyon to judge the mountain of Esav, and the kingdom will be יהוה's.
