And Yisra'el settled in Shittim, and the people began to prostitute themselves with the daughters of Mo'av.

And they called the people to the sacrifices of their elohim, and the people ate and bowed down to their elohim.

And Yisra'el joined himself to Ba'al-Pe'or, and the anger of יהוה burned against Yisra'el.

And יהוה said to Mosheh, "Take all the heads of the people and hang them before יהוה opposite the sun, so that the anger of יהוה may turn away from Yisra'el."

And Mosheh said to the judges of Yisra'el, "Each man must kill his men who have joined themselves to Ba'al-Pe'or."

And behold, a man from the sons of Yisra'el came and brought to his brothers a Midyanite woman, before the eyes of Mosheh and before the eyes of all the congregation of the sons of Yisra'el, and they were weeping at the entrance of the Tent of Meeting.

And Pineḥas, son of El'azar, son of Aharon the kohen, saw it, and he rose from the midst of the congregation and took a spear in his hand.

And he went after the Yisra'elite man into the tent and pierced both of them, the Yisra'elite man and the woman, through her belly, and the plague was stopped from upon the sons of Yisra'el.

And those who died by the plague were twenty-four thousand.

And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying:

Pineḥas, son of El'azar, son of Aharon the kohen, turned back my wrath from upon the sons of Yisra'el, because he was zealous with my zeal among them, and I did not destroy the sons of Yisra'el in my zeal.

Therefore say, 'Behold, I am giving him my covenant of shalom.'

And it shall be to him and to his offspring after him a covenant of eternal priesthood, because he was zealous for his Elohim and made atonement for the sons of Yisra'el.'

And the name of the Yisra'elite man who was struck, who was struck with the Midyanite woman, was Zimri, son of Salu, a prince of a father's house of the Shim'oni.

And the name of the woman who was struck, the Midyanite woman, was Kozbi, daughter of Tsur, head of a father's house in Midyan; he is.

For they harass you with their schemes with which they schemed against you concerning Pe'or, and concerning Kozbi, daughter of a prince of Midyan, their sister, who was struck on the day of the plague because of Pe'or.'
