And the Kena'ani, king of 'Arad, who lived in the Negev, heard that Yisra'el was coming by way of the travelers, and he fought against Yisra'el and took captives from him.

And Yisra'el vowed a vow to יהוה and said, 'If you will indeed give this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.'

And יהוה heard the voice of Yisra'el and gave the Kena'ani into his hand, and he utterly destroyed them and their cities, and he called the name of the place Ḥormah.

And they traveled from Mount Hor by way of the Sea of Reeds to go around the land of Edom, and the people's spirit became impatient on the way.

And the people spoke against Elohim and against Mosheh, 'Why have you brought us up from Mitsrayim to die in the wilderness? Because there is no bread and there is no water, and our spirit is disgusted with this worthless bread.'

And יהוה sent the fiery serpents against the people, and they bit the people, and a great many people from Yisra'el died.

And the people came to Mosheh and said, 'We have sinned, because we have spoken against יהוה and against you. Pray to יהוה, and he will remove the serpent from us.' And Mosheh prayed for the people.

And יהוה said to Mosheh, 'Make for yourself a fiery serpent and put it on a pole, and it will be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, will live.'

And Mosheh made a bronze serpent and put it on the pole, and it was that if the serpent bit a man, and he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

And the sons of Yisra'el traveled and encamped in 'Ovot.

And they traveled from 'Ovot and encamped in 'Iyyey Ha'avarim, in the wilderness opposite Mo'av, from the east side of the sun.

From there they traveled and encamped in the valley of Zered.

From there they traveled and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out from the border of the Emori, because the Arnon is the border of Mo'av, between Mo'av and between the Emori.

Therefore it is said in the Book of the Wars of יהוה, 'At Vahev in Sufah, and the wadis of Arnon.'

'And the slope of the wadis that extends to the settlement of 'Ar and leans on the border of Mo'av.'

And from there, a well. This is the well about which יהוה said to Mosheh, 'Gather the people, and I will give them water.'

Then Yisra'el sang this song: 'Ascend, O well! Sing to her!'

A well which princes dug, which the nobles of the people excavated, with the scepter, with their staffs.' And from the wilderness, Mattanah.

And from Mattanah, Naḥali'el, and from Naḥali'el, Bamot.

And from Bamot, the valley that is in the field of Mo'av, the head of the peak that looks out over the face of the desert.

And Yisra'el sent messengers to Siḥon, king of the Emori, saying:

'Let me pass through your land. We will not turn aside into a field or into a vineyard. We will not drink water from a well. By the king's road we will go until we pass your border.'

And Siḥon did not let Yisra'el pass through his border, and Siḥon gathered all his people and went out against Yisra'el into the wilderness, and he came to Yaḥats and fought against Yisra'el.

And Yisra'el struck him with the edge of the sword, and took possession of his land from the Arnon to the Yabbok, to the sons of 'Ammon, because the border of the sons of 'Ammon was strong.

And Yisra'el took all these cities, and Yisra'el settled in all the cities of the Emori, in Ḥeshbon and in all its villages.

For Ḥeshbon was the city of Siḥon, king of the Emori, and he had fought against the former king of Mo'av and had taken all his land from his hand as far as the Arnon.

Therefore the proverbs say, 'Come to Ḥeshbon, let it be built and established, the city of Siḥon.'

'For fire went out from Ḥeshbon, a flame from the city of Siḥon. It consumed 'Ar of Mo'av, the high places of the Arnon.'

'Woe to you, Mo'av! You are destroyed, O people of Kemosh! He gave his sons as fugitives and his daughters into captivity to Siḥon, king of the Emori.'

'We have shot at them; Ḥeshbon has perished as far as Dibon. We have laid waste until Nofah, which is near Medeba.'

And Yisra'el settled in the land of the Emori.

And Mosheh sent to spy out Ya'azer, and they captured its villages, and he dispossessed the Emori who was there.

And they turned and went up by way of Bashan, and Og, king of Bashan, went out to meet them, he and all his people, for battle at Edrei.

And יהוה said to Mosheh, 'Do not fear him, for I have given him into your hand, and all his people, and his land. And you shall do to him as you did to Siḥon, king of the Emori, who lived in Ḥeshbon.'

And they struck him and his sons and all his people until no survivor was left to him, and they took possession of his land.
