And the sons of Yisra'el, all the congregation, came to the wilderness of Tsiyon in the first month, and the people stayed in Qadesh, and there Miryam died, and there she was buried.

And there was no water for the congregation, and they gathered against Mosheh and against Aharon.

And the people quarreled with Mosheh, and they said, saying, 'If only we had died when our brothers died before יהוה!'

And why have you brought the assembly of יהוה into this wilderness, that we and our livestock should die there?

And why have you brought us up from Mitsrayim to bring us to this bad place? It is not a place of seed, and fig tree, and vine, and pomegranate, and there is no water to drink.

And Mosheh and Aharon came from before the assembly to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, and they fell on their faces, and the glory of יהוה appeared to them.

And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying:

'Take the staff, and you and Aharon your brother, gather the congregation, and speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will give its water, and you will bring out water for them from the rock, and you will water the congregation and their livestock.'

And Mosheh took the staff from before יהוה, as He commanded him.

And Mosheh and Aharon gathered the assembly before the rock, and he said to them, 'Listen now, you rebels! Shall we bring water for you from this rock?'

And Mosheh lifted up his hand, and struck the rock with his staff twice, and abundant water came out, and the congregation and their livestock drank.

And יהוה said to Mosheh and to Aharon, 'Because you did not believe in Me, to sanctify Me before the eyes of the sons of Yisra'el, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.'

These are the waters of Meribah, where the sons of Yisra'el quarreled with יהוה, and He was sanctified among them.

And Mosheh sent messengers from Qadesh to the king of Edom, saying, 'Thus says your brother Yisra'el, you know all the hardship that has met us.'

'Our fathers went down to Mitsrayim, and we lived in Mitsrayim many days, and the Mitsrites treated us and our fathers badly.'

'And we cried out to יהוה, and He heard our voice, and He sent an angel and brought us out of Mitsrayim, and behold, we are in Qadesh, a city on the edge of your territory.'

'Let us pass through your land. We will not pass through a field or a vineyard, and we will not drink water from a well. By the king's highway we will go; we will not turn right or left until we pass your border.'

And Edom said to him, 'You shall not pass through me, lest I come out against you with the sword.'

And the sons of Yisra'el said to him, 'We will go up by the highway, and if we drink your water, I and my livestock, then I will pay for it. It is nothing; I will just pass by on foot.'

And he said, 'You shall not pass through.' And Edom came out against him with a great people and with a strong hand.

And Edom refused to let Yisra'el pass through his territory, and Yisra'el turned away from him.

And they journeyed from Qadesh, and all the congregation of the sons of Yisra'el came to Mount Hor.

And יהוה spoke to Mosheh and to Aharon at Mount Hor, on the border of the land of Edom, saying:

'Aharon will be gathered to his people, for he shall not enter the land which I have given to the sons of Yisra'el, because you rebelled against My word at the waters of Meribah.'

'Take Aharon and Eleazar his son, and bring them up to Mount Hor.'

'And strip Aharon of his garments, and you shall clothe Eleazar his son with them, and Aharon will be gathered and will die there.'

And Mosheh did as יהוה commanded, and they went up to Mount Hor before the eyes of all the congregation.

And Mosheh stripped Aharon of his garments, and clothed Eleazar his son with them, and Aharon died there on the top of the mountain, and Mosheh and Eleazar came down from the mountain.

And all the congregation saw that Aharon had died, and all the house of Yisra'el wept for Aharon for thirty days.
