A message, the word of יהוה, to Yisra'el, by the hand of His messengers.

'I have loved you,' says יהוה. But you say, 'In what have you loved us?' Was not 'Esav Ya'aqov's brother?' declares יהוה. 'Yet I have loved Ya'aqov.'

And 'Esav I have hated, and I have made his mountains a desolation, and his inheritance for the jackals of the desert.

If Edom says, 'We have been crushed, but we will return and build the ruins,' thus says יהוה of hosts, 'They will build, but I will tear down, and they will be called the border of wickedness, and the people against whom יהוה is angry forever.'

And your eyes will see, and you will say, 'May יהוה be magnified beyond the border of Yisra'el.'

A son honors a father, and a servant his master. And if I am a father, where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is my reverence? says יהוה of hosts. To you, O priests, who despise my name. And you say, 'In what have we despised your name?'

You bring upon my altar defiled bread. And you say, 'In what have we defiled you?' By your saying, 'The table of יהוה is contemptible.'

And when you bring a blind animal to sacrifice, it is not bad. And when you bring a lame and sick animal, it is not bad. Offer it, please, to your governor. Will he be pleased with you? Or will he show favor to you? says יהוה of hosts.

And now, please, appease the face of Elohim, and let him favor us from your hand. This has been from your doing. Will he show favor to any of you? says יהוה of hosts.

Who is even among you who will shut the doors, so that you do not kindle my altar for nothing? I have no delight in you, says יהוה of hosts, and I will not accept an offering from your hand.

For from the rising of the sun to its setting, my name is great among the nations, and in every place incense is offered, and a pure offering to my name, for my name is great among the nations, says יהוה of hosts.

But you are profaning it by your saying, 'The table of Adonai is defiled, and its produce, its food, is contemptible.'

And you say, 'Behold, what a burden!' And you have sniffed at it, says יהוה of hosts. And you bring what was plundered, and the lame, and the sick. And you bring the offering. Should I accept it from your hand? says יהוה.

And cursed is the deceiver, and there is a male in his flock, and he vows, and sacrifices a blemished animal to Adonai. For I am a great King, says יהוה of hosts, and my name is feared among the nations.
