And these are the nations which יהוה left to test Yisra'el with them, all who did not know all the wars of Kena'an.

Only so that the generations of the sons of Yisra'el might know, to teach them war, those who before did not know them.

The five rulers of the Pelishtim, and all the Kena'ani, and the Tsidoni, and the Ḥivi who lived on Mount Levano, from Mount Ba'al Ḥermon until the entrance of Ḥamat.

And they were to test Yisra'el with them, to know if they would obey the commandments of יהוה which He commanded their fathers by the hand of Mosheh.

And the sons of Yisra'el lived among the Kena'ani, the Ḥitti, and the Emori, and the Perizzi, and the Ḥivi, and the Yevusi.

And they took their daughters for themselves as wives, and their daughters they gave to their sons, and they served their elohim.

And the sons of Yisra'el did evil in the eyes of יהוה, and they forgot יהוה their Elohim, and they served the Ba'alim and the Asherot.

And the anger of יהוה burned against Yisra'el, and He sold them into the hand of Kushan-Rish'atayim, king of Aram-Naharayim, and the sons of Yisra'el served Kushan-Rish'atayim for eight years.

And the sons of Yisra'el cried out to יהוה, and יהוה raised up a savior for the sons of Yisra'el, and He saved them: Othniel, son of Kenaz, the younger brother of Kalev.

And the Spirit of יהוה was upon him, and he judged Yisra'el, and he went out to war, and יהוה gave into his hand Kushan-Rish'atayim, king of Aram, and his hand prevailed over Kushan-Rish'atayim.

And the land was quiet for forty years, and Othniel son of Kenaz died.

And the sons of Yisra'el again did evil in the eyes of יהוה, and יהוה strengthened Eglon, king of Mo'av, against Yisra'el, because they did evil in the eyes of יהוה.

And he gathered to himself the sons of 'Ammon and 'Amalek, and he went and struck Yisra'el, and they possessed the city of palm trees.

And the sons of Yisra'el served Eglon, king of Mo'av, for eighteen years.

And the sons of Yisra'el cried out to יהוה, and יהוה raised up for them a savior: Ehud son of Gera, son of the Yemini, a man whose right hand was left-handed. And the sons of Yisra'el sent by his hand a gift to Eglon, king of Mo'av.

And Ehud made for himself a sword, and it had two edges, a cubit in length, and he girded it under his garments on his right thigh.

And he brought the gift to Eglon, king of Mo'av, and Eglon was a very fat man.

And it happened when he finished bringing the gift, he sent away the people who carried the gift.

But he himself returned from the idols which were by Gilgal, and he said, 'I have a secret word for you, O king.' And he said, 'Silence!' And all who stood with him went out from him.

And Ehud came to him, and he was sitting in the upper room, which was his alone. And Ehud said, 'I have a word from Elohim for you.' And he rose from the seat.

And Ehud stretched out his left hand and took the sword from his right thigh and thrust it into his belly.

And the hilt also went in after the blade, and the fat closed over the blade, for he did not pull the sword out of his belly, and it came out his rear.

And Ehud went out into the porch, and he shut the doors of the upper room behind him and locked them.

And he went out, and his servants came, and they looked, and behold, the doors of the upper room were locked. And they said, 'Surely he is covering his feet in the cool room.'

And they waited until they were ashamed, and behold, he was not opening the doors of the upper room. And they took the key and opened, and behold, their master was fallen on the ground, dead.

And Ehud escaped while they delayed, and he passed by the idols and escaped to Se'irat.

And it happened when he arrived, he blew a shofar in Mount Efrayim, and the sons of Yisra'el went down with him from the mountain, and he was before them.

And he said to them, 'Pursue after me, for יהוה has given your enemies, the Mo'avites, into your hand.' And they went down after him, and they captured the crossings of the Yarden to Mo'av, and they did not let a single man cross.

And they struck Mo'av at that time about ten thousand men, all strong and all valiant men, and not one man escaped.

And Mo'av was subdued on that day under the hand of Yisra'el, and the land was quiet for eighty years.

And after him was Shamgar son of 'Anat, and he struck the Pelishtim, six hundred men, with an ox-goad, and he also saved Yisra'el.
