And the messenger of יהוה ascended from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, 'I brought you up from Mitsrayim and I brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers, and I said, I will not break my covenant with you forever.'

And you, you shall not make a covenant with the inhabitants of this land; their altars you shall tear down, and you did not listen to my voice. What is this that you have done?

And also I said, I will not drive them out from before you, and they will be to you as snares, and their gods will be to you as a trap.

And it happened when the messenger of יהוה spoke these words to all the sons of Yisra'el, and the people lifted up their voice and they wept.

And they called the name of that place Bochim, and they sacrificed there to יהוה.

And Yehoshua sent out the people, and the sons of Yisra'el went each to his inheritance to possess the land.

And the people served יהוה all the days of Yehoshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Yehoshua, who saw all the great work of יהוה which he did for Yisra'el.

And Yehoshua the son of Nun, the servant of יהוה, died at one hundred and ten years old.

And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill country of Efrayim, north of the mountain of Ga'ash.

And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers, and another generation arose after them who did not know יהוה, and also the work which he did for Yisra'el.

And the sons of Yisra'el did evil in the eyes of יהוה, and they served the Ba'alim.

And they abandoned יהוה, the Elohim of their fathers, who brought them out from the land of Mitsrayim, and they went after other elohim from the elohim of the peoples who were around them, and they bowed down to them, and they provoked יהוה.

And they abandoned יהוה and served the Ba'al and the 'Ashtarot.

And the anger of יהוה burned against Yisra'el, and he gave them into the hand of plunderers, and they plundered them, and he sold them into the hand of their enemies all around, and they could no longer stand before their enemies.

In all that they went out, the hand of יהוה was against them for evil, as יהוה spoke and as יהוה swore to them, and it distressed them greatly.

And יהוה raised up judges, and they saved them from the hand of their plunderers.

And also to their judges they did not listen, for they played the harlot after other elohim and bowed down to them; they turned quickly from the way in which their fathers walked to listen to the commands of יהוה; they did not do so.

And when יהוה raised up judges for them, יהוה was with the judge, and he saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge, for יהוה relented because of their groaning from before their oppressors and those who pushed them.

And it happened when the judge died, they turned back and acted more corruptly than their fathers, to go after other elohim to serve them and to bow down to them; they did not abandon their deeds and their hard way.

And the anger of יהוה burned against Yisra'el, and he said, 'Because this nation has transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and they did not listen to my voice.'

Also, I will not again drive out any from before them from the nations which Yehoshua left and died.

In order that by them Yisra'el might be tested, whether they keep the way of יהוה to walk in it, as their fathers kept it, or not.

And יהוה left these nations, not driving them out quickly, and he did not give them into the hand of Yehoshua.
