And it came to pass in those days, and king there was not in Yisra'el, and it came to pass, a man, a Levite, dwelling in the far parts of Mount Efrayim, and he took for himself a wife, a concubine, from Beit-Lechem of Yehudah.

And his concubine committed adultery against him, and she went from him to the house of her father, to Beit-Lechem of Yehudah, and she was there days, four months.

And her husband arose, and he went after her to speak to her heart (to return her), and his young man was with him, and a pair of donkeys, and the young man brought him to the house of her father, and the father of the young woman saw him, and he rejoiced to meet him.

And her father-in-law held him, the father of the young woman, and he sat with him three days, and they ate, and they drank, and they stayed there.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, and they got up early in the morning, and he arose to go, and the father of the young woman said to his son-in-law, 'Support your heart with a piece of bread, and afterward you will go.'

And they sat, and they both ate together, and they drank, and the father of the young woman said to the man, 'Please, stay, and lodge, and it will be good for your heart.'

And the man arose to go, and his father-in-law urged him, and he returned, and he lodged there.

And he got up early in the morning on the fifth day to go, and the father of the young woman said, 'Please, support your heart, and delay until the day declines, and they both ate.'

And the man arose to go, he and his concubine and his young man, and his father-in-law, the father of the young woman, said to him, 'Look now, the day has grown weak towards evening; lodge here, please, and lodge here, and it will be good for your heart, and you will get up tomorrow for your way, and you will go to your tent.'

And the man was unwilling to lodge, and he arose, and he went, and he came opposite Yevus, which is Yerushalayim, and with him a pair of donkeys, bound, and his concubine with him.

They were with Yevus, and the day was very low, and the young man said to his master, 'Come now, and let us turn aside to this city of the Yevusi, and let us lodge in it.'

And his master said to him, 'We will not turn aside to a foreign city, which is not from the sons of Yisra'el, here; and we will pass over to Giv'ah.'

And he said to his young man, 'Come, and let us draw near to one of the places, and let us lodge in Giv'ah or in Ramah.'

And they passed over, and they went, and the sun set for them near Giv'ah, which belongs to Binyamin.

And they turned aside there to go lodge in Giv'ah, and he came and sat in the open square of the city, and there was no man gathering them into a house to lodge.

And behold, an old man was coming from his work from the field in the evening, and the man was from Mount Efrayim, and he was dwelling in Giv'ah, and the men of the place were sons of Yamin.

And he lifted his eyes and saw the traveling man in the open square of the city, and the old man said, 'Where are you going, and from where are you coming?'

And he said to him, 'We are passing over from Beit-Lechem of Yehudah to the far parts of Mount Efrayim; from there I am, and I am going to Beit-Lechem of Yehudah, and to the house of יהוה I am going, and there is no man gathering me into a house.'

And also fodder and also feed there is for our donkeys, and also bread and wine there is for me and for your maidservant and for the young man with your servants; there is no lack of any matter.

And the old man said, 'Peace to you; only, all your need is upon me; only, in the open square do not lodge.'

And he brought him to his house, and he gave fodder to the donkeys, and they washed their feet, and they ate, and they drank.

They were making their hearts good, and behold, the men of the city, men of worthlessness, surrounded the house, beating on the door, and they said to the man, the owner of the house, the old man, saying, 'Bring out the man who came into your house, and let us know him.'

And the man, the owner of the house, went out to them, and he said to them, 'Do not, my brothers, do not do evil, please; after this man came into my house, do not do this disgraceful thing.'

Behold, my daughter, the virgin, and his concubine, please bring them out, and humble them, and do to them what is good in your eyes, and to this man do not do this disgraceful thing.'

And the men were unwilling to listen to him, and the man seized his concubine, and he brought her out to them, and they knew her, and they abused her all the night until the morning, and they sent her away at the dawn.

And the woman came at the turning of the morning, and she fell at the entrance of the house of the man where her master was, until the light.

And her master arose in the morning, and he opened the doors of the house, and he went out to go on his way, and behold, the woman, his concubine, was falling at the entrance of the house, and her hands were on the threshold.

And he said to her, 'Arise, and let us go,' and there was no answer, and he took her onto the donkey, and the man arose, and he went to his place.

And he came to his house, and he took the knife, and he seized his concubine, and he cut her into her bones, into twelve pieces, and he sent her throughout all the border of Yisra'el.

And it will be, everyone who sees will say, 'There has not happened and there has not been seen like this from the day the sons of Yisra'el went up from the land of Mitsrayim until this day; set for yourselves upon it, consult, and speak.'
