Then Yehoshua called for the Reuveni, and the Gadi, and the half-tribe of Menasheh.

And he said to them, You have kept all that Mosheh, servant of יהוה, commanded you, and you have listened to my voice in all that I commanded you.

You have not left your brothers these many days until this day, and you have kept the charge of the commandment of יהוה your Elohim.

And now, יהוה your Elohim has given rest to your brothers, as he spoke to them. And now, turn and go to your tents to your inherited land, which Mosheh, servant of יהוה, gave you across the Yarden.

Only, be very careful to do the commandment and the teaching, which Mosheh, servant of יהוה, commanded you: to love יהוה your Elohim, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cling to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

And Yehoshua blessed them and sent them away, and they went to their tents.

And to the half-tribe of Menasheh, Mosheh gave in Bashan, and to his half, Yehoshua gave across the Yarden, westward, with their brothers. And Yehoshua also sent them to their tents and blessed them.

And he said to them, saying, With much wealth, return to your tents, and with very much livestock, with silver and with gold and with bronze and with iron and with many, many garments, divide the spoil of your enemies with your brothers.

And the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh returned and went from the sons of Yisra'el from Shiloh, which is in the land of Kena'an, to go to the land of Gil'ad, to their inherited land, which they possessed, according to the word of יהוה by the hand of Mosheh.

And they came to the regions of the Yarden, which is in the land of Kena'an, and the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh built there an altar by the Yarden, a great altar in appearance.

And the sons of Yisra'el heard, saying, Behold, the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh have built the altar opposite the land of Kena'an, by the regions of the Yarden, on the side of the sons of Yisra'el.

And the sons of Yisra'el heard, and all the congregation of the sons of Yisra'el gathered at Shiloh to go up against them for war.

And the sons of Yisra'el sent to the sons of Reuven and to the sons of Gad and to the half-tribe of Menasheh, to the land of Gil'ad, Pinchas, son of El'azar the kohen.

And ten princes with him, one prince, one prince for the house of the fathers for all the tribes of Yisra'el, and each man a head of his fathers' houses, they were for the thousands of Yisra'el.

And they came to the sons of Reuven and to the sons of Gad and to the half-tribe of Menasheh, to the land of Gil'ad, and they spoke with them, saying:

Thus said all the congregation of יהוה, What is this transgression that you have transgressed against Elohim of Yisra'el, turning away today from after יהוה, by building for yourselves an altar for your rebellion today against יהוה?

Is the sin of Pe'or not enough for us, from which we have not been purified until this day, and a plague came upon the congregation of יהוה?

And you, today you turn away from after יהוה, and it will be, today you rebel against יהוה, and tomorrow against all the congregation of Yisra'el he will be angry.

But if the land of your possession is unclean, cross over to the land of יהוה's possession, where יהוה's tabernacle dwells, and take possession among us. But against יהוה do not rebel, and against us do not rebel, by building for yourselves an altar, apart from the altar of יהוה our Elohim.

Did not Achan, son of Zerach, transgress in the devoted things, and against all the congregation of Yisra'el was there anger? And he was one man; he did not perish for his iniquity.

And the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the half-tribe of Menasheh answered and spoke with the heads of the thousands of Yisra'el.

El Elohim, יהוה, El Elohim, יהוה, he knows, and Yisra'el, he will know. If it is in rebellion, or if it is in transgression against יהוה, do not save us this day.

To build for ourselves an altar to turn away from after יהוה, or to offer on it a burnt offering and a grain offering, or or to make on it peace offerings, יהוה, he will seek.

And if not, out of concern, out of a matter, we did this, saying, Tomorrow your sons will say to our sons, saying, What is between you and יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el?

And יהוה has set a boundary between us and you, sons of Reuven and sons of Gad: the Yarden. You have no portion in יהוה. And your sons will cause our sons to cease from fearing יהוה.

And we said, Let us now prepare to build the altar, not for a burnt offering, and not for a sacrifice.

For it is a witness between us and you, and between our generations after us, to serve the service of יהוה before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings, and your sons will not say tomorrow to our sons, You have no portion in יהוה.

And we said, And it will be, if they say to us and to our generations tomorrow, and we will say, Behold the pattern of the altar of יהוה, which our fathers made, not for a burnt offering and not for a sacrifice, for it is a witness between us and you.

Far be it from us from it to rebel against יהוה, and to turn away today from after יהוה, to build an altar for a burnt offering, for a grain offering, and for a sacrifice, apart from the altar of יהוה our Elohim, which is before his tabernacle.

And Pinchas the kohen and the princes of the congregation and the heads of the thousands of Yisra'el who were with him heard the words that the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad and the sons of Menasheh spoke, and it was good in their eyes.

And Pinchas, son of El'azar the kohen, said to the sons of Reuven and to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Menasheh, Today we know that יהוה is among us, because you have not transgressed against יהוה with this transgression. Then you have delivered the sons of Yisra'el from the hand of יהוה.

And Pinchas, son of El'azar the kohen, and the princes returned from the sons of Reuven and from the sons of Gad from the land of Gil'ad to the land of Kena'an, to the sons of Yisra'el, and they brought them word.

And the word was good in the eyes of the sons of Yisra'el, and the sons of Yisra'el blessed Elohim, and they did not say to go up against them for war to destroy the land where the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad were dwelling.

And the sons of Reuven and the sons of Gad named the altar: 'It is a witness between us, that יהוה is the Elohim.'
