And these are what the sons of Yisra'el inherited in the land of Kena'an, which El'azar the priest and Yehoshua son of Nun and the heads of the fathers' tribes for the sons of Yisra'el allotted to them.

By lot of their inheritance, as יהוה commanded by the hand of Mosheh, for the nine tribes and half a tribe.

For Mosheh gave the inheritance of the two tribes and half a tribe across the Yarden, and to the Levi'im he did not give an inheritance among them.

For the sons of Yosef were two tribes, Menasheh and Efrayim, and they did not give a portion to the Levi'im in the land, except cities to dwell in and their pasturelands for their livestock and their possessions.

As יהוה commanded Mosheh, so the sons of Yisra'el did, and they divided the land.

And the sons of Yehudah approached Yehoshua in Gilgal, and Kalev son of Yefuneh the Qenizi said to him, 'You know the matter which יהוה spoke to Mosheh, the man of Elohim, concerning me and concerning you in Qadesh Barne'a.'

Forty years old I was when Mosheh, servant of יהוה, sent me from Qadesh Barne'a to scout the land, and I returned to him a word as was in my heart.

And my brothers who went up with me caused the heart of the people to melt, but I fully followed יהוה my Elohim.

And Mosheh swore on that day, saying, 'If not the land which your foot trod, to you it will be for an inheritance and to your sons forever, because you fully followed יהוה your Elohim.'

And now, behold, יהוה has kept me alive as he spoke; these forty-five years since יהוה spoke this word to Mosheh, while Yisra'el walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am today eighty-five years old.

Still today I am as strong as on the day Mosheh sent me; as my strength was then, so is my strength now for war and for going out and for coming in.

And now, give me this mountain, about which יהוה spoke on that day. For you heard on that day that Anakim were there, and great fortified cities. Perhaps יהוה will be with me, and I will dispossess them, as יהוה spoke.'

And Yehoshua blessed him, and he gave Hevron to Kalev son of Yefuneh for an inheritance.

Therefore Hevron became the inheritance of Kalev son of Yefuneh the Qenizi until this day, because he fully followed יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el.

And the name of Hevron was formerly Qiryat Arba, of the great man among the Anakim. And the land had rest from war.
