And it happened when Adonai-Tsedek, king of Yerushalayim, heard that Yehoshua had captured Ai and had utterly destroyed it, just as he did to Yeriḥo and its king, so he did to Ai and its king, and that the inhabitants of Giv'on had made peace with Yisra'el and were among them.

And they feared greatly, because Giv'on was a great city, like one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.

And Adonai-Tsedek, king of Yerushalayim, sent to Hōmam, king of Ḥevron, and to Pir'am, king of Yarmut, and to Yafi'a, king of Lakish, and to Dvir, king of 'Eglon, saying:

Come up to me and help me, and let us strike Giv'on, because it has made peace with Yehoshua and with the sons of Yisra'el.

And the five kings of the Emori gathered and came up, the king of Yerushalayim, the king of Ḥevron, the king of Yarmut, the king of Lakish, the king of 'Eglon. They and all their camps, and they encamped against Giv'on and fought against it.

And the men of Giv'on sent to Yehoshua at the camp in Gilgal, saying, Do not relax your hand from your servants; come up to us quickly and save us and help us, for all the kings of the Emori who live in the mountains have gathered against us.

And Yehoshua went up from Gilgal, he and all the army of war with him, and all the mighty warriors.

And יהוה said to Yehoshua, Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hand; not one man of them will stand before you.

And Yehoshua came upon them suddenly; all night he marched from Gilgal.

And יהוה confused them before Yisra'el, and he struck them with a great slaughter at Giv'on, and pursued them along the ascent of Beit-Ḥoron, and struck them as far as 'Azeqah and as far as Maqedah.

And it happened as they fled from before Yisra'el, they being on the descent of Beit-Ḥoron, and יהוה cast down great stones from the sky upon them as far as 'Azeqah, and they died. Many died from the hailstones, more than those whom the sons of Yisra'el killed with the sword.

Then Yehoshua spoke to יהוה on the day יהוה gave the Emori into the hand of the sons of Yisra'el, and he said in the sight of Yisra'el, Sun, be silent in Giv'on, and moon, in the valley of Ayalon.

And the sun was silent, and the moon stood still, until the nation avenged itself on its enemies. Is this not written in the Book of the Upright? And the sun stood still in the middle of the sky, and did not hurry to set for a whole day.

And there was no day like that day before it and after it, when יהוה listened to the voice of a man, for יהוה fought for Yisra'el.

And Yehoshua returned, and all Yisra'el with him, to the camp at Gilgal.

And these five kings fled and hid themselves in the cave at Maqedah.

And it was told to Yehoshua, saying, The five kings have been found, hidden in the cave at Maqedah.

And Yehoshua said, Roll great stones to the mouth of the cave, and station men there to guard them.

But you, do not stand still; pursue your enemies and strike their rear guard; do not let them enter their cities, for יהוה your Elohim has given them into your hand.

And it happened when Yehoshua and the sons of Yisra'el had finished striking them with a very great slaughter until they were destroyed, and those who survived from them had entered the fortified cities.

And all the people returned to the camp to Yehoshua at Maqedah in peace. No one in Yisra'el sharpened his tongue against any man.

And Yehoshua said, Open the mouth of the cave and bring these five kings out to me from the cave.

And they did so, and brought these five kings out to him from the cave: the king of Yerushalayim, the king of Ḥevron, the king of Yarmut, the king of Lakish, the king of 'Eglon.

And it happened when they brought these kings out to Yehoshua, Yehoshua called for all the men of Yisra'el, and said to the commanders of the warriors who had gone with him, Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings. And they came near and put their feet on their necks.

And Yehoshua said to them, Do not fear, and do not be dismayed; be strong and courageous, for thus יהוה will do to all your enemies against whom you fight.

And Yehoshua struck them afterwards, and killed them, and hanged them on five trees, and they were hanging on the trees until evening.

And it happened at the time of sunset, Yehoshua commanded, and they took them down from the trees and threw them into the cave where they had hidden themselves, and they placed great stones at the mouth of the cave, until this very day.

And Yehoshua captured Maqedah on that day and utterly destroyed it by the edge of the sword, and its king. He utterly destroyed them and all the souls that were in it; he left no survivor. And he did to the king of Maqedah as he had done to the king of Yeriḥo.

And Yehoshua and all Yisra'el with him passed on from Maqedah to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.

And יהוה also gave it into the hand of Yisra'el, and its king. And he struck it by the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were in it; he left no survivor in it. And he did to its king as he had done to the king of Yeriḥo.

And Yehoshua and all Yisra'el with him passed on from Libnah to Lakish, and encamped against it and fought against it.

And יהוה gave Lakish into the hand of Yisra'el, and he captured it on the second day and struck it by the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were in it, just as he had done to Libnah.

Then Hōram, king of Gezer, came up to help Lakish, and Yehoshua struck him and his people until he left him no survivor.

And Yehoshua and all Yisra'el with him passed on from Lakish to 'Eglon, and they encamped against it and fought against it.

And they captured it on that day and struck it by the edge of the sword, and all the souls that were in it on that day he utterly destroyed, just as he had done to Lakish.

And Yehoshua and all Yisra'el with him went up from 'Eglon to Ḥevron, and fought against it.

And they captured it, and its king, and all its cities, and all the souls that were in it; he left no survivor, just as he had done to 'Eglon, so he did to Ḥevron and its king, and just as he had done to Libnah and its king.

And Yehoshua and all Yisra'el with him returned to Devir, and fought against it.

And he captured it, and its king, and all its cities, and struck them by the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all souls that were in it; he left no survivor, just as he had done to Ḥevron, so he did to Devir and its king, and just as he had done to Libnah and its king.

And Yehoshua struck all the land: the hill country, and the Negev, and the lowlands, and the mountain slopes, and all their kings. He left no survivor, and he utterly destroyed every living soul, just as יהוה Elohei Yisra'el had commanded.

And Yehoshua struck them from Qadesh-Barnea as far as 'Azzah, and all the land of Goshen, and as far as Giv'on.

And Yehoshua captured all these kings and their land at one time, because יהוה Elohei Yisra'el fought for Yisra'el.

And Yehoshua returned, and all Yisra'el with him, to the camp at Gilgal.
