And Iyov answered and said:

If only my sorrow were weighed, and my ruin placed together on scales.

For now it would be heavier than the sea; therefore my words have been swallowed.

For the arrows of Shaddai are with me; their poison my spirit drinks; the terrors of Eloah array themselves against me.

Does a wild donkey bray over grass? Does an ox low over its fodder?

Can tasteless food be eaten without salt? Is there flavor in the froth of mallow?

My soul refuses to touch them; they are like my sick food.

Who will grant that my request comes, and that Eloah would give my hope?

And may Eloah be pleased to crush me; may He let loose His hand and cut me off.

And it would still be my comfort, and I would exult in pain; He would not spare, for I have not hidden the words of the Holy One.

What is my strength, that I should wait? And what is my end, that I should prolong my life?

Is my strength the strength of stones? Is my flesh bronze?

Indeed, is there no help for me within myself? And is all resource driven away from me?

To him who is melting away, his neighbor should show kindness, and he should not forsake the fear of Shaddai.

My brothers have acted deceitfully like a stream, like the torrent of streams they pass by.

They are dark from ice; snow covers them.

When they flow, they are cut off; when it is hot, they vanish from their place.

The paths of their way twist; they go into the void and perish.

The caravans of Tema looked for them; the companies of Sheba hoped for them.

They were ashamed because they trusted; they came to them and were disgraced.

For now you are like that; you do not see; terror has made you afraid.

Did I say, 'Give to me'? Or, 'From your wealth, bribe on my behalf'?

Or, 'Deliver me from the hand of an enemy,' or, 'From the hand of oppressors, redeem me'?

Teach me, and I will be silent; and show me where I have erred.

How forceful are words of truth! But what does your argument prove?

Do you think to argue with words, and that the words of the despairing are wind?

Indeed, you would cast lots upon an orphan, and you would bargain over your friend.

And now, be willing, look at me; and if I lie to your face.

Turn back, let there be no injustice; yes, turn back again; my righteousness is in it.

Is there injustice on my tongue? Or does my palate not discern ruin?
