And it happened in the seventh month, Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu son of Elishama, from the seed of the nobility and the king's officers, and ten men with him, came to Gedalyahu son of Aḥiqam in Miṣpah, and they ate bread there together in Miṣpah.

Then Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu and the ten men who were with him arose and struck Gedalyahu son of Aḥiqam son of Shafan with the sword, and he killed him, whom the king of Babel had appointed over the land.

And all the Yehudim who were with him, with Gedalyahu, in Miṣpah, and the Kasdim who were found there, the men of war, Yishma'el struck.

And it happened on the second day of killing Gedalyahu, and no man knew.

And men came from Shikkem, from Shiloh, and from Shomron, eighty men, with shaved beards and torn clothes, and cutting themselves, and a grain offering and frankincense in their hand to bring to the house of יהוה.

And Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu went out to meet them from Miṣpah, going and weeping, and it happened when he met them, he said to them, 'Come to Gedalyahu son of Aḥiqam.'

And it happened when they came into the midst of the city, Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu slaughtered them in the midst of the cistern, he and the men who were with him.

And ten men were found among them, and they said to Yishma'el, 'Do not kill us, for we have hidden treasures in the field, wheat and barley and oil and honey,' and he refrained, and did not kill them among their brothers.

And the cistern where Yishma'el threw all the corpses of the men whom he struck by the hand of Gedalyahu, that is what King Asa made because of Ba'asha king of Yisra'el, Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu filled it with the slain.

And Yishma'el took captive all the remnant of the people who were in Miṣpah, the king's daughters and all the people remaining in Miṣpah, whom Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, had appointed over Gedalyahu son of Aḥiqam. And Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu took them captive, and went to cross over to the Benei-'Ammon.

And Yoḥanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him heard all the evil that Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu had done.

And they took all the men and went to fight with Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu, and they found him by the great waters which are in Giv'on.

And it happened when all the people who were with Yishma'el saw Yoḥanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him, they rejoiced.

And all the people whom Yishma'el had taken captive from Miṣpah turned around, and returned, and went to Yoḥanan son of Kareah.

And Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu escaped with eight men from the presence of Yoḥanan and went to the Benei-'Ammon.

And Yoḥanan son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him took all the remnant of the people whom he had brought back from Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu from Miṣpah, after he struck Gedalyahu son of Aḥiqam, the warriors and the women and the children and the eunuchs whom he had brought back from Giv'on.

And they went and stayed in Gerut-Kimham, which is near Beit-Leḥem, to go and come to Mitsrayim.

Because of the Kasdim, for they feared them, because Yishma'el son of Nethanyahu had killed Gedalyahu son of Aḥiqam, whom the king of Babel had appointed over the land.
