And Tsidqiyahu son of Yoshiyahu became king, in place of Konyahu son of Yehoyaqim, whom Nevukhadretstsar king of Bavel had made king in the land of Yehudah.

But he, and his servants, and the people of the land did not listen to the words of יהוה which he spoke by the hand of Yirmeyahu the prophet.

Then King Tsidqiyahu sent Yehukhal son of Shelemyahu, and Tsfanyahu son of Ma'aseiyahu the kohen, to Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying, 'Pray for us to יהוה our Elohim.'

Now Yirmeyahu was going in and out among the people, and they had not put him in the house of confinement.

And the army of Par'oh came out from Mitsrayim, and when the Kasdim who were besieging Yerushalayim heard the report of them, they withdrew from Yerushalayim.

Then the word of יהוה came to Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying:

'Thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Thus you shall say to the king of Yehudah, who sent you to inquire of me: Behold, the army of Par'oh, which is coming out to help you, will return to its land, to Mitsrayim.

'And the Kasdim shall return and fight against this city, and capture it, and burn it with fire.'

'Thus says יהוה: Do not deceive yourselves, saying, 'The Kasdim will surely go away from us,' for they will not go.

'Indeed, if you strike down the entire army of the Kasdim who are fighting against you, and there remain among them only wounded men, each in his tent, they will rise up and burn this city with fire.'

'And when the army of the Kasdim had withdrawn from Yerushalayim because of the army of Par'oh,

'Then Yirmeyahu set out from Yerushalayim to go to the land of Binyamin to receive his share there among the people.

'And when he was at the Gate of Binyamin, there was an officer of the guard whose name was Yir'iyahu son of Shelemyahu, son of Ḥananyahu. And he arrested Yirmeyahu the prophet, saying, 'You are defecting to the Kasdim!'

'But Yirmeyahu said, 'That is a lie! I am not defecting to the Kasdim.' But he did not listen to him. So Yir'iyahu arrested Yirmeyahu and brought him to the officials.

'And the officials were angry with Yirmeyahu, and they beat him, and they put him in the house of confinement in the house of Yehonatan the scribe, for they had made that a prison.

'For Yirmeyahu had entered the house of the cistern, and the cells, and Yirmeyahu remained there for many days.

'Then King Tsidqiyahu sent and had him brought, and the king questioned him in his house secretly, and said, 'Is there any word from יהוה?' And Yirmeyahu said, 'There is.' And he said, 'You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Bavel.'

'Then Yirmeyahu said to King Tsidqiyahu, 'What wrong have I done to you, or to your servants, or to this people, that you have put me in the house of confinement?

'And where are your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, 'The king of Bavel will not come against you and against this land?'

'But now, please listen, my Adonai the king. Let my plea come before you. Do not send me back to the house of Yehonatan the scribe, lest I die there.'

'Then King Tsidqiyahu commanded, and they committed Yirmeyahu to the court of the guard, and they gave him a loaf of bread daily from the street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Yirmeyahu remained in the court of the guard.
