And it came to pass in the fourth year of Yehoyaqim son of Yoshiyahu king of Yehudah, this word came to Yirmeyahu from יהוה, saying:

Take for yourself a scroll of a book, and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Yisra'el, and against Yehudah, and against all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Yoshiyahu, until this day.

Perhaps the house of Yehudah will hear all the evil that I am thinking to do to them, so that they may turn back, each man from his evil way, and I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.

So Yirmeyahu called Baruk son of Neriyahu, and Baruk wrote from the mouth of Yirmeyahu all the words of יהוה that He had spoken to him, on a scroll of a book.

And Yirmeyahu commanded Baruk, saying, 'I am confined; I cannot go into the house of יהוה.'

So you go and read from the scroll, which you wrote from my mouth, the words of יהוה in the ears of the people, in the house of יהוה, on the day of fasting. And also in the ears of all Yehudah who come from their cities, you shall read them.

Perhaps their plea will fall before יהוה, and they will turn back, each man from his evil way, for great is the anger and the fury that יהוה has spoken against this people.

And Baruk son of Neriyahu did according to all that Yirmeyahu the prophet commanded him, to read in the book the words of יהוה in the house of יהוה.

And it came to pass in the fifth year of Yehoyaqim son of Yoshiyahu king of Yehudah, in the ninth month, they proclaimed a fast before יהוה, all the people in Yerushalayim, and all the people who came from the cities of Yehudah to Yerushalayim.

And Baruk read in the book the words of Yirmeyahu in the chamber of Gemaryahu son of Shafan the scribe, in the upper courtyard, at the entrance of the new gate of the house of יהוה, in the ears of all the people.

And Mikayhu son of Gemaryahu son of Shafan heard all the words of יהוה from the scroll.

And he went down into the king's house to the scribe's chamber, and behold, there all the officials were sitting: Elishema the scribe, and Delayahu son of Shelemyahu, and Elnatan son of 'Akhbor, and Gemaryahu son of Shafan, and Tsidqiyahu son of Ḥananyahu, and all the officials.

And Mikayhu told them all the words that he had heard when Baruk read the scroll in the ears of the people.

And all the officials sent to Baruk, Yehudi son of Netanyahu son of Shelemyahu son of Kushiy, saying, 'The scroll in which you read in the ears of the people, take it in your hand and go.' And Baruk son of Neriyahu took the scroll in his hand and came to them.

And they said to him, 'Sit now, and read it in our ears.' And Baruk read it in their ears.

And it came to pass when they heard all the words, they were afraid, each man toward his neighbor, and they said to Baruk, 'Tell us, we must tell the king all these words.'

And they asked Baruk, saying, 'Tell us now, how did you write all these words from his mouth?'

And Baruk said to them, 'From his mouth He read to me all these words, and I was writing on the scroll with ink.'

And the officials said to Baruk, 'Go, hide yourself, you and Yirmeyahu, and let no man know where you are.'

And they went into the king's courtyard, and they deposited the scroll in the chamber of Elishema the scribe, and they told the king all the words.

And the king sent Yehudi to take the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishema the scribe, and Yehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the officials who stood above the king.

And the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, and a brazier of burning coals was before him.

And it came to pass when Yehudi read three or four columns, he cut it with the scribe's knife and threw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all the scroll was consumed by the fire that was in the brazier.

And neither the king nor all his servants who heard all these words were afraid, nor did they tear their clothes.

And also Elnatan and Delayahu and Gemaryahu pleaded with the king not to burn the scroll, but he did not listen to them.

And the king commanded Yerahme'el son of the king, and Serayahu son of 'Azri'el, and Shelemyahu son of 'Abde'el to seize Baruk the scribe and Yirmeyahu the prophet, but יהוה had hidden them.

And the word of יהוה came to Yirmeyahu after the king burned the scroll and the words that Baruk wrote from the mouth of Yirmeyahu, saying:

Go back, take another scroll, and write on it all the former words that were on the first scroll, which Yehoyaqim king of Yehudah burned.

And concerning Yehoyaqim king of Yehudah you shall say, 'Thus says יהוה, you burned this scroll, saying, "Why did you write on it, saying, 'The king of Babel will surely come and destroy this land, and will cause man and beast to cease from it'?'"

Therefore, thus says יהוה concerning Yehoyaqim king of Yehudah, 'He will have no one sitting on the throne of David, and his corpse will be cast out to the heat by day and to the frost by night.'

And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity, and I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Yerushalayim and upon the men of Yehudah all the evil that I have spoken to them, and they did not listen.'

And Yirmeyahu took another scroll and gave it to Baruk son of Neriyahu the scribe, and he wrote on it from the mouth of Yirmeyahu all the words of the book which Yehoyaqim king of Yehudah burned in the fire, and many more words like them were added to them.
