The word which יהוה spoke to Yirmeyahu in the tenth year of Tsidqiyahu king of Yehudah, that is the eighteenth year of Nebukhadretstsar.

And then the army of the king of Babel was besieging Yerushalayim, and Yirmeyahu the prophet was confined in the courtyard of the guard, which is in the house of the king of Yehudah.

Which Tsidqiyahu king of Yehudah had confined him, saying, 'Why do you prophesy, saying, 'Thus says יהוה, 'Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babel, and he will capture it'?'

And Tsidqiyahu king of Yehudah will not escape from the hand of the Kasdim, for he will surely be given into the hand of the king of Babel, and he will speak mouth to mouth with him, and his eyes will see his eyes.

And Babel will take Tsidqiyahu there, and he will be there until I visit him,' declares יהוה. 'Because you fight against the Kasdim, you will not succeed.'

And Yirmeyahu said, 'The word of יהוה came to me, saying:

'Behold, Ḥanam'el son of Shallum your uncle is coming to you, saying, 'Buy for yourself my field which is in 'Anatot, for the right of redemption is yours to buy.'

And Ḥanam'el, my cousin's son, came to me in the courtyard of the guard, according to the word of יהוה, and said to me, 'Please buy my field which is in 'Anatot, which is in the land of Binyamin, for the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours. Buy it for yourself.' And I knew that it was the word of יהוה.

And I bought the field from Ḥanam'el, my cousin's son, which is in 'Anatot, and I weighed out for him the silver, seven sheqels and ten pieces of silver.

And I wrote in the document and sealed it, and I called witnesses, and I weighed the silver on the scales.

And I took the deed of purchase, the sealed document, and the stipulations, and the open copy.

And I gave the deed of purchase to Barukh son of Neriyahu, son of Maḥseyahu, in the sight of Ḥanam'el my uncle's son, and in the sight of the witnesses who were writing in the deed of purchase, in the sight of all the Yehudim who were sitting in the courtyard of the guard.

And I charged Barukh before them, saying:

'Thus says יהוה of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra'el: 'Take these documents, this deed of purchase and the sealed document, and this open copy, and put them in an earthenware vessel, so that they may last for many days.'

'For thus says יהוה of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra'el: 'Houses and fields and vineyards will yet be bought in this land.'

And I prayed to יהוה after I gave the deed of purchase to Barukh son of Neriyahu, saying:

'Ah, Adonai יהוה! Behold, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for you.

You show steadfast love to thousands of generations and repay the guilt of fathers into the lap of their children after them. You are the great Elohim, the Mighty One; יהוה of hosts is your name.

Great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of Adam, to give to each according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.

You performed signs and wonders in the land of Mitsrayim, even to this day, and in Yisra'el, and among mankind, and you have made for yourself a name, as on this day.

And you brought your people Yisra'el out of the land of Mitsrayim with signs and with wonders, with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm, and with great terror.

And you gave them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

And they came in and possessed it, but they did not obey your voice or walk in your instruction; they did not do all that you commanded them to do. So you brought upon them all this disaster.

Behold, the siege ramps have come to the city to capture it, and the city is given into the hand of the Kasdim who are fighting against it, because of the sword and the famine and the pestilence. And what you spoke has happened, and behold, you see it.

And you said to me, Adonai יהוה, 'Buy yourself the field for silver and call witnesses,' even though the city is given into the hand of the Kasdim.

And the word of יהוה came to Yirmeyahu, saying:

'Behold, I am יהוה, the Elohim of all flesh. Is anything too difficult for me?

Therefore, thus says יהוה: 'Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the Kasdim and into the hand of Nebukhadretstsar king of Babel, and he will capture it.

And the Kasdim who are fighting against this city will come and set this city on fire and burn it, and the houses on whose roofs they burned incense to the Ba'al and poured out drink offerings to other elohim to provoke me.

For the children of Yisra'el and the children of Yehudah have done only evil in my sight from their youth, for the children of Yisra'el have only provoked me by the work of their hands,' declares יהוה.

For it was because of my anger and my wrath that this city was to me, from the day they built it until this day, to remove it from my presence.

Because of all the evil of the children of Yisra'el and the children of Yehudah, which they did to provoke me—their kings, their officials, their priests, and their prophets, and the men of Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim.

And they turned their backs to me and not their faces, and I taught them, teaching diligently, but they did not listen to receive instruction.

And they set up their abominations in the house which is called by my name to defile it.

And they built the high places of the Ba'al in the valley of the son of Hinnom to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molekh, which I did not command them, nor did it enter my mind to do this abomination to cause Yehudah to sin.

And now, therefore, thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el, concerning this city, about which you say, 'It is given into the hand of the king of Babel by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence.'

'Behold, I will gather them from all the lands to which I have driven them in my anger and in my wrath and in my great indignation. And I will bring them back to this place and make them dwell in safety.

And they will be my people, and I will be their Elohim.

And I will give them one heart and one way, to fear me all their days for their good and for the good of their children after them.

And I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from them to do them good, and I will put my fear in their hearts, so that they may not turn away from me.

And I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land in truth, with all my heart and with all my soul.

For thus says יהוה: 'As I have brought upon this people all this great disaster, so I will bring upon them all the good that I am speaking concerning them.

And fields will be bought in this land, about which you say, 'It is a desolation, without man or beast,' it is given into the hand of the Kasdim.

They will buy fields with silver and write in the document and seal it and call witnesses, in the land of Binyamin and in the surroundings of Yerushalayim and in the cities of Yehudah and in the cities of the hill country and in the cities of the lowlands and in the cities of the Negev. For I will restore their fortunes,' declares יהוה.
