Saying, If a man sends away his wife, and she goes from him, and becomes another man's, will he return to her again? Will not that land be greatly defiled? But you have played the harlot with many lovers, yet return to me, says יהוה.

Lift up your eyes to the bare heights, and see where you have not lain with him. You have sat in the paths like an Arab in the desert, and you have defiled the land with your whoredom and with your wickedness.

And the rain was withheld, and there was no latter rain, yet you had the forehead of a harlot; you refused to be ashamed.

Have you not just now cried to me, 'My father, you are the guide of my youth'?

Will he keep his anger forever? Will he guard it to the end? Behold, you have spoken, and you have done evil things, and you have had your fill.

And יהוה said to me in the days of King Yoshiyahu, Have you seen what backsliding Yisra'el has done? She has gone to every high mountain and under every green tree, and there she has played the harlot.

And I said, After she has done all these things, she will return to me. But she did not return. And her treacherous sister Yehudah saw it.

And I saw that for all the adulteries of backsliding Yisra'el, I had sent her away and given her a writ of divorce. Yet her treacherous sister Yehudah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also.

And because of the sound of her whoredom, she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stone and with wood.

And yet in all this, her treacherous sister Yehudah has not returned to me with her whole heart, but falsely, says יהוה.

And יהוה said to me, Backsliding Yisra'el has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Yehudah.

Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, backsliding Yisra'el, says יהוה. I will not look on you with anger, for I am gracious, says יהוה; I will not keep anger forever.

Only acknowledge your iniquity, that you have rebelled against יהוה your Elohim, and have scattered your ways to the strangers under every green tree, and you have not obeyed my voice, says יהוה.

Return, O backsliding children, says יהוה; for I am master over you. And I will take you one from a city, and two from a family, and bring you to Tsiyon.

And I will give you shepherds according to my heart, and they shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

And it shall come to pass, when you are multiplied and fruitful in the land in those days, says יהוה, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of יהוה. It shall not come to mind, nor shall they remember it, nor shall they visit it, nor shall it be made again.

At that time they shall call Yerushalayim the throne of יהוה, and all nations shall gather to it, to the name of יהוה, to Yerushalayim. And they shall not again go after the stubbornness of their evil heart.

In those days the house of Yehudah shall walk with the house of Yisra'el, and they shall come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave as an inheritance to your fathers.

But I said, How shall I put you among the children, and give you a pleasant land, a heritage of glory, the most splendid inheritance of nations? And I said, You shall call me, Father, and shall not turn away from me.

Surely, as a wife treacherously departs from her husband, so you have treacherously departed from me, O house of Yisra'el, says יהוה.

A voice is heard on the bare heights, the weeping of the children of Yisra'el, because they have perverted their way, they have forgotten יהוה their Elohim.

Return, O backsliding children. I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to you, for you are יהוה our Elohim.

Truly, the howling from the hills, the multitude of mountains, is a deception. Truly, in יהוה our Elohim is the salvation of Yisra'el.

For the shame has consumed the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us, for we have sinned against יהוה our Elohim, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and we have not obeyed the voice of יהוה our Elohim.
