In the beginning of the reign of Yehoyaqim son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, this word came from יהוה, saying:

Thus says יהוה: Stand in the courtyard of the house of יהוה, and speak to all the cities of Yehudah who come to bow down in the house of יהוה, all the words that I commanded you to speak to them. Do not omit a word.

Perhaps they will listen and turn back, each from his evil way, and I will relent concerning the disaster that I am planning to do to them because of the evil of their deeds.

And you shall say to them: Thus says יהוה, If you do not listen to me, to walk in my instruction that I have given before you,

to listen to the words of my servants the prophets, whom I am sending to you, and I send them early, and you have not listened.

Then I will make this house like Shiloh, and this city I will give as a curse to all the nations of the earth.

And the priests and the prophets and all the people heard Yirmeyahu speaking these words in the house of יהוה.

And it happened when Yirmeyahu finished speaking all that יהוה commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests and the prophets and all the people seized him, saying, 'You shall surely die.'

Why have you prophesied in the name of יהוה, saying, 'This house will be like Shiloh, and this city will be desolate without an inhabitant,' and all the people gathered against Yirmeyahu in the house of יהוה.

And the officials of Yehudah heard these words, and they came up from the king's house to the house of יהוה, and they sat at the entrance of the New Gate of יהוה.

And the priests and the prophets said to the officials and to all the people, saying, 'This man deserves the death penalty, because he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears.'

And Yirmeyahu said to all the officials and to all the people, saying, 'יהוה sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.'

And now, make your ways and your deeds good, and listen to the voice of יהוה your Elohim, and יהוה will relent concerning the disaster that He has spoken against you.

And I, behold, I am in your hand; do to me as is good and right in your eyes.

Only know for sure that if you put me to death, you are bringing innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and upon its inhabitants, because truly יהוה sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.'

And the officials and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets, 'This man does not deserve the death penalty, for he has spoken to us in the name of יהוה our Elohim.'

And some of the elders of the land stood up and said to all the assembly of the people, saying:

'Mikhah the Morashtite prophesied in the days of Ḥizqiyahu, king of Yehudah, and he said to all the people of Yehudah, saying, Thus says יהוה of hosts, Tsiyon will be plowed like a field, and Yerushalayim will become ruins, and the mountain of the house will be like the high places of a forest.'

'Did Ḥizqiyahu king of Yehudah and all Yehudah put him to death? Did he not fear יהוה and seek the favor of יהוה? And יהוה relented concerning the disaster that He had spoken against them. And we, we are doing great evil against our own lives.'

'And also, there was a man who prophesied in the name of יהוה, Uriyah son of Shama'yahu from Qiryat Yearim, and he prophesied against this city and against this land according to all the words of Yirmeyahu.'

'And King Yehoyaqim and all his warriors and all the officials heard his words, and the king sought to put him to death. And Uriyah heard, and he feared, and he fled and went to Mitsrayim.'

'And King Yehoyaqim sent men to Mitsrayim, Elnatan son of 'Akhbor and men with him, to Mitsrayim.'

'And they brought Uriyah out of Mitsrayim, and they brought him to King Yehoyaqim, and he struck him with the sword and threw his corpse into the graves of the common people.'

'However, the hand of Aḥiqam son of Shafan was with Yirmeyahu, so that they did not give him into the hand of the people to put him to death.'
