The word which was to Yirmeyahu from יהוה when the king Tsidqiyahu sent to him Pashḥur son of Malkiyahu and Tsafanyahu son of Ma'aseiyahu the priest, saying:

Please inquire for us of יהוה, because Nevukhadretstsar king of Bavel is fighting against us. Perhaps יהוה will do for us according to all His wonders, and He will go up from over us.

And Yirmeyahu said to them, 'Thus you shall say to Tsidqiyahu:'

'Thus says יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el: Behold, I am turning back the weapons of war which are in your hands, with which you are fighting against the king of Bavel and against the Kasdim who are besieging you outside the wall, and I will gather them into the midst of this city.'

'And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, and with anger and with fury and with great wrath.'

'And I will strike the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast; they will die with a great pestilence.'

'And afterward,' declares יהוה, 'I will give Tsidqiyahu king of Yehudah and his servants and the people, and those remaining in this city, from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nevukhadretstsar king of Bavel, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those seeking their lives. And he will strike them with the edge of the sword; He will not spare them, nor pity them, nor have mercy.'

'And to this people you shall say, Thus says יהוה: Behold, I am putting before you the way of life and the way of death.'

'The one who stays in this city will die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence. But the one who goes out and falls to the Kasdim who are besieging you will live, and his life will be for plunder.'

'For I have set My face against this city for evil and not for good,' declares יהוה. 'It will be given into the hand of the king of Bavel, and he will burn it with fire.'

'And concerning the house of the king of Yehudah, hear the word of יהוה.'

'House of David, thus says יהוה: Execute justice in the morning, and deliver the plundered from the hand of the oppressor, lest My fury go out like fire and burn, and there be no one to quench it, because of your evil deeds.'

'Behold, I am against you, inhabitant of the valley, rock of the plain,' declares יהוה, 'you who say, Who will come down against us? And who will enter into our dwellings?'

'And I will punish you according to the fruit of your deeds,' declares יהוה. 'And I will kindle a fire in its forest, and it will devour all its surroundings.'
