And Pashḥur, son of Immer, the priest, and he was officer, chief in the house of יהוה, heard Yirmeyahu prophesying these words.

And Pashḥur struck Yirmeyahu the prophet and put him in the stocks which were at the upper gate of Binyamin, which was in the house of יהוה.

And it happened the next day, and Pashḥur brought Yirmeyahu out of the stocks, and Yirmeyahu said to him, 'Not Pashḥur has יהוה called your name, but rather Terror All Around.'

'For thus says יהוה, 'Behold, I am giving you for terror to yourself and to all your friends, and they will fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes will see, and all Yehudah I will give into the hand of the king of Babel, and he will exile them to Babel, and he will strike them with the sword.'

'And I will give all the defenses of this city, and all its labor, and all its precious things, and all the treasures of the kings of Yehudah I will give into the hand of their enemies, and they will plunder them, and take them, and bring them to Babel.'

'And you, Pashḥur, and all who dwell in your house will go into captivity, and to Babel you will come, and there you will die, and there you will be buried, you and all your friends to whom you prophesied lies.'

'You persuaded me, יהוה, and I was persuaded; you were stronger than me, and you prevailed. I have become a laughingstock all day long; everyone mocks me.'

'For whenever I speak, I cry out; I proclaim violence and destruction, because the word of יהוה has become to me a reproach and a mockery all day long.'

'And I said, 'I will not remember Him, nor will I speak anymore in His name,' but it was in my heart like a burning fire, shut up in my bones, and I was weary of holding it in, and I could not.'

'For I heard the slander of many, 'Terror all around! Let us report him!' All the men of my peace watch for my stumbling; perhaps he will be persuaded, and we can overcome him, and we can take our vengeance on him.'

'But יהוה is with me like a mighty warrior; therefore my pursuers will stumble and will not prevail. They will be greatly ashamed, for they have not succeeded, with an everlasting shame that will not be forgotten.'

'And יהוה of hosts is the one who tests the righteous, who sees the kidneys and the heart. Let me see Your vengeance on them, for to You I have revealed my cause.'

'Sing to יהוה, praise יהוה, because He has delivered the life of the needy from the hand of evildoers.'

'Cursed be the day on which I was born; let the day my mother bore me not be blessed.'

'Cursed be the man who brought the news to my father, saying, 'A son has been born to you,' making him very happy.'

'And let that man be like the cities which יהוה overthrew and did not relent, and let him hear a cry in the morning and an alarm at midday.'

'Why did He not kill me from the womb? And let my mother have been my grave, and her womb forever pregnant.'

'Why did I come out from the womb to see trouble and sorrow, and my days end in shame?'
