Thus says יהוה: Go and buy a potter's earthenware jar, and from the elders of the people and from the elders of the priests.

And you shall go out to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, which is by the entrance of the Potsherd Gate, and you shall proclaim there the words that I will speak to you.

And you shall say, Hear the word of יהוה, O kings of Yehudah and inhabitants of Yerushalayim. Thus says יהוה of Hosts, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Behold, I am bringing a disaster upon this place, so that the ears of everyone who hears it will tingle.

Because they have forsaken me and made this place alien, and have burned incense in it to other elohim whom neither they nor their fathers nor the kings of Yehudah have known, and they have filled this place with the blood of the innocent.

And they have built the high places of the Ba'al to burn their sons in the fire as burnt offerings to the Ba'al, which I did not command, nor did I speak it, nor did it enter my mind.

Therefore, behold, days are coming, declares יהוה, and this place shall no more be called Topheth, or the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter.

And I will empty the counsel of Yehudah and Yerushalayim in this place, and I will make them fall by the sword before their enemies and by the hand of those who seek their life, and I will give their corpses as food to the birds of the sky and to the beasts of the earth.

And I will make this city a desolation and a hissing; everyone who passes by it will be astonished and hiss because of all its plagues.

And I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and each will eat the flesh of his neighbor in the siege and in the distress with which their enemies and those who seek their life will oppress them.

And you shall break the jar in the sight of the men who go with you.

And you shall say to them, Thus says יהוה of Hosts: Just so will I break this people and this city, as one breaks a potter's vessel that cannot be repaired again, and they will bury in Topheth because there is no other place to bury.

Thus I will do to this place, declares יהוה, and to its inhabitants, and make this city like Topheth.

And the houses of Yerushalayim and the houses of the kings of Yehudah shall be defiled like the place of Topheth, all the houses on whose roofs they burned incense to all the host of heaven and poured out drink offerings to other elohim.

Then Yirmeyahu came from Topheth, where יהוה had sent him to prophesy, and he stood in the courtyard of the house of יהוה and said to all the people.

Thus says יהוה of Hosts, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Behold, I am bringing upon this city and all its towns all the disaster that I have spoken against it, because they have stiffened their necks so as not to hear my words.
