The word which was to יהוה, saying:

Get up and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.

And I went down to the potter's house, and behold, he was working on the wheels.

And the vessel which he was making from the clay was spoiled in the hand of the potter, and he turned and made another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.

And the word of יהוה came to me, saying:

Can I not do to you, house of Yisra'el, like this potter? says יהוה. Behold, like the clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, house of Yisra'el.

At one moment I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to uproot and to tear down and to destroy.

And that nation turns from its evil, concerning which I spoke, and I relent concerning the evil which I planned to do to it.

And at another moment I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant.

And it does evil in my sight, not obeying my voice, and I relent concerning the good which I said I would do to it.

And now, please speak to the men of Yehudah and to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, saying: Thus says יהוה, Behold, I am forming against you evil, and I am planning against you a plan. Turn, please, each one from his evil way, and make good your ways and your deeds.

And they will say, It is hopeless! For we will go after our own plans, and each one will do according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.

Therefore, thus says יהוה, Please ask among the nations, who has heard such things? The virgin Yisra'el has done a very terrible thing.

Will the snow of Lebanon leave the rocky fields? Or will the cold, flowing foreign waters be drawn off?

For my people have forgotten me, they burn incense for nothing, and they have caused them to stumble in their ways, the ancient paths, to walk on unpaved roads.

To make their land a desolation, a hissing forever. Everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will shake his head.

Like an east wind I will scatter them before the enemy; I will not see their face in the day of their disaster.

And they said, Come, and let us devise plans against Yirmeyahu, for the law will not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor a word from the prophet. Come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us not pay attention to any of his words.

Pay attention, יהוה, to me, and hear the voice of my adversaries.

Should good be repaid with evil? For they have dug a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before you to speak good for them, to turn back your wrath from them.

Therefore, give their sons to famine, and pour them out by the edge of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved and widows, and let their men be killed by death, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.

Let a cry be heard from their houses, for you will bring a raiding party suddenly upon them. For they dug a pit to capture me, and they laid snares for my feet.

And you, יהוה, you know all their counsel against me for death. Do not atone for their iniquity, and do not blot out their sin from before you; let them be made to stumble before you in the time of your anger, deal with them.
