Hear the word which יהוה speaks to you, O house of Yisra'el.

Thus says יהוה: Do not learn the way of the nations, and from the signs of the heavens do not be terrified, for the nations are terrified by them.

For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree from the forest, the work of the hands of a craftsman with a chisel.

With silver and with gold they adorn it; with nails and with hammers they secure it, and it will not move.

Like a palm tree they are, and they do not speak; they must be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not fear them, for they cannot do evil, and also, they cannot do good.

There is none like you, יהוה; you are great, and great is your name in might.

Who would not fear you, King of the nations? For it is fitting for you, for among all the wise of the nations and in all their kingdoms, there is none like you.

And at once they become foolish and stupid; the instruction of vanities is wood.

Silver beaten thin from Tarshish is brought, and gold from Uphaz, the work of a craftsman and the hands of a refiner; blue and purple is their clothing; the work of wise men they all are.

But יהוה Elohim is truth; He is the living Elohim and the King of the age. From His anger, the earth trembles, and the nations cannot endure His wrath.

Thus you shall say to them: The elohim who did not make the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth and from under these heavens.

He made the earth by His strength, He established the world by His wisdom, and by His understanding He stretched out the heavens.

At the sound of His voice, there is a roar of waters in the heavens, and He causes clouds to rise from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain, and He brings out the wind from His storehouses.

Every person is stupid, devoid of knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his idol, for his molten image is a lie, and there is no spirit in them.

They are vanity, works of delusion; in the time of their punishment, they will perish.

Not like these is the portion of Ya'aqov, for He is the former of all, and Yisra'el is the tribe of His inheritance; יהוה Tzeva'ot is His name.

Gather your goods from the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.

For thus says יהוה: Behold, I am casting out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and I will distress them, so that they may find.

Woe to me because of my wound! My stroke is severe, and I said, 'Surely this is my sickness, and I will bear it.'

My tent is destroyed, and all my cords are broken; my sons have gone from me, and they are no more; there is no one to pitch my tent anymore, nor to set up my curtains.

For the shepherds have become stupid and have not sought יהוה; therefore they have not prospered, and all their flock is scattered.

A sound of report, behold, it is coming, and a great commotion from the land of the north, to make the cities of Yehudah a desolation, a dwelling place for jackals.

I know, יהוה, that man's way is not his own; it is not for a man who walks to direct his steps.

Chasten me, יהוה, but with justice; not in your anger, lest you diminish me.

Pour out your wrath on the nations who do not know you, and on the families who have not called on your name, for they have devoured Ya'aqov and consumed him and destroyed him, and made his dwelling place desolate.
