The words of Yirmeyahu son of Ḥilqiyahu, from the priests who were in 'Anatot in the land of Binyamin.

The word of יהוה came to him in the days of Yoshiyahu son of Amon, king of Yehudah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

And it came to pass in the days of Yehoyaqim son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, until the end of the eleventh year of Tsidqiyahu son of Yoshiyahu, king of Yehudah, until the exile of Yerushalayim in the fifth month.

And the word of יהוה came to me, saying:

Before I formed you in the belly, I knew you, and before you came out of the womb, I consecrated you; a prophet to the nations I gave you.

And I said, 'Ah, Adonai יהוה! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am a youth.'

But יהוה said to me, 'Do not say, 'I am a youth,' for to all that I send you, you shall go, and all that I command you, you shall speak.'

'Do not fear from their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,' declares יהוה.

Then יהוה stretched out his hand and touched my mouth, and יהוה said to me, 'Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.'

'See, today I have appointed you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to uproot and to tear down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant.'

And the word of יהוה came to me, saying, 'Yirmeyahu, what do you see?' And I said, 'A staff of almond wood I see.'

Then יהוה said to me, 'You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'

And the word of יהוה came to me a second time, saying, 'What do you see?' And I said, 'A boiling pot I see, and its face is from the north.'

Then יהוה said to me, 'From the north the disaster shall be opened upon all the inhabitants of the land.'

'For behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north,' declares יהוה. 'And they shall come, and each one shall set his throne at the entrance of the gates of Yerushalayim, and against all its walls all around, and against all the cities of Yehudah.'

'And I will speak my judgments against them concerning all their wickedness, because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other elohim and have bowed down to the works of their hands.'

'But you, gird your loins, and rise up, and speak to them all that I command you. Do not be dismayed before them, lest I dismay you before them.'

'And I, behold, today I have made you a fortified city, and an iron pillar, and bronze walls against all the land, against the kings of Yehudah, against its officials, against its priests, and against the people of the land.'

'And they shall fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for I am with you to deliver you,' declares יהוה.
