The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; dwelling in the land of shadow of death, light has shone upon them.

You have multiplied the nation (not) [for] him; you have magnified the joy. They rejoice before you like the joy of the harvest, as they exult over their portion of spoil.

For the yoke of his burden and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken, like the day of Midyan.

For every boot of the trampling warrior in the tumult, and every garment rolled in blood, will be for burning, for food of fire.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us; and the government is upon his shoulder; and his name will be called Pele Yo'etz El Gibor Avi-Ad Sar-Shalom.

For the increase of the government and for peace, there is no end, upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from now and forever. The zeal of יהוה of hosts will do this.

יהוה sent a word against Ya'aqov, and it fell upon Yisra'el.

And all the people will know, Efrayim and the inhabitants of Shomron, in arrogance and in greatness of heart, saying:

'The bricks have fallen, but we will build with hewn stone; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will replace them with cedars.'

But יהוה has exalted the adversaries of Retsin against them, and has stirred up their enemies.

Aram from the east and Pelishtim from the west; they devour Yisra'el with open mouth. In all this, his anger has not turned back, and still his hand is stretched out.

And the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought יהוה of hosts.

And יהוה cut off from Yisra'el head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day.

The elder and the honored man, he is the head; and the prophet who teaches lies, he is the tail.

And those who lead this people have caused them to stray, and those who are led by them are swallowed up.

Therefore, Adonai will not rejoice over their young men, nor will he have compassion on their orphans and their widows; for every one is a hypocrite and does evil, and every mouth speaks folly. In all this, his anger has not turned back, and still his hand is stretched out.

For wickedness burns like a fire; it devours thorns and thistles, and it ignites the thickets of the forest, and they rise up in a column of smoke.

Through the wrath of יהוה of hosts, the land is scorched, and the people have become like food for fire; no one spares his brother.

And he devours on the right and is hungry, and he devours on the left and is not satisfied; each one eats the flesh of his own arm.

Menasheh devours Efrayim, and Efrayim devours Menasheh; together they are against Yehudah. In all this, his anger has not turned back, and still his hand is stretched out.
