Descend and sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babel. Sit on the ground, there is no throne, daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no longer be called tender and delicate.

Take millstones and grind flour. Uncover your braids, bare your legs, cross the rivers, daughter of Chaldea.

Your nakedness will be uncovered, your shame will also be seen. I will take vengeance and will not spare a person.

Our Redeemer, יהוה of Hosts is His name, the Holy One of Yisra'el.

Sit silent and come into darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans, for you will no longer be called mistress of kingdoms.

I was angry with My people, I profaned My inheritance, and I gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy; on the elder you made your yoke very heavy.

And you said, 'Forever I will be mistress,' so you did not lay these things to heart, you did not remember their end.

And now hear this, you who are luxurious, dwelling securely, saying in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one else. I will not sit as a widow, nor will I know loss of children.'

But these two things will come to you suddenly in one day: loss of children and widowhood. They will come upon you in their full measure, because of your many sorceries, because of your abundant enchantments.

For you trusted in your wickedness; you said, 'No one sees me.' Your wisdom and your knowledge, they have led you astray, and you said in your heart, 'I am, and there is no one else.'

And disaster will come upon you; you will not know its dawn. And ruin will fall upon you; you will not be able to ward it off. And destruction will come upon you suddenly, which you do not know.

Stand now with your enchantments and with your many sorceries, with which you have labored from your youth; perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you will make a stand.

You are worn out by your many counselors. Let now the stargazers, the watchers of the new moons, stand up and save you from what will come upon you.

Behold, they have become like stubble; fire will burn them. They will not deliver themselves from the power of the flame. There is no coal for them to warm themselves by, no fire to sit before.

Thus will they be to you, those with whom you have labored, your merchants from your youth. Each will wander off to his own way; there is no one to save you.
