Woe, crown of pride, drunkards of Efrayim, and fading flower, his beautiful glory, which is on the head of the valley of fatness, struck by wine.

Look, strong and mighty for Adonai, like a storm of hail, a destructive sleet, like a flood of great waters, sweeping, he has laid it on the ground by hand.

The crown of pride of the drunkards of Efrayim will be trampled underfoot.

And the fading flower, his beautiful glory, which is on the head of the valley of fatness, will be like the first ripe fig before the summer; whoever sees it, as soon as he holds it in his hand, he swallows it.

In that day, יהוה of hosts will be for a crown of beauty and for a diadem of glory to the remnant of his people.

And for a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and for strength to those turning back war at the gate.

But these also have gone astray because of wine, and have wandered because of strong drink; the priest and the prophet have gone astray because of strong drink, they are swallowed by wine, they have wandered because of strong drink, they have gone astray in vision, they have stumbled in judgment.

For all tables are full of vomit, filthiness, without a clean place.

Whom will he teach knowledge? And whom will he make to understand the message? Those weaned from milk, those taken from the breast?

For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, a little here, a little there.

For with stammering lips and in a foreign tongue he will speak to this people.

To whom he said, 'This is the resting place, let the weary rest; and this is the place of repose,' but they refused to hear.

And the word of יהוה will be to them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, a little here, a little there; so that they may go and fall backward and be broken and snared and captured.

Therefore, hear the word of יהוה, you scoffers, who rule this people in Yerushalayim.

Because you have said, 'We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we have made an agreement; the overflowing scourge will pass through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood we have hidden ourselves.'

Therefore, thus says Adonai יהוה, 'Behold, I am laying in Tsiyon a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a firmly placed foundation; he who believes will not be in haste.'

And I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line; and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overflow the hiding place.

And your covenant with death will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; the overflowing scourge will pass through, and you will be its trampling.

As often as it passes through, it will take you; for morning after morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be nothing but terror to understand the message.

For the bed is too short to stretch oneself on, and the covering too narrow to wrap oneself in.

For יהוה will rise up as at Mount Peratsim, he will stir himself as in the valley of Giv'on, to do his work, his strange work, and to perform his act, his alien act.

And now, do not mock, lest your bonds be tightened; for I have heard a complete destruction from Adonai יהוה of hosts, upon all the earth.

Give ear and hear my voice; pay attention and hear my words.

Does the plowman plow all day to sow? Does he break and harrow his ground?

When he has leveled its surface, does he not scatter dill and sow cumin, and put wheat in rows, barley in its place, and spelt in its border?

For his Elohim instructs him, he teaches him the right way.

Dill is not threshed with a threshing sledge, nor is the wheel of a cart rolled over cumin; but dill is beaten out with a staff, and cumin with a rod.

Grain must be crushed; indeed, he will not thresh it forever, nor will the wheel of his cart and his horses crush it.

This also comes from יהוה of hosts; he is wonderful in counsel and magnificent in wisdom.
