Oracle of the Valley of Vision, what to you now? Why have you gone up, all of you, to the roofs?

You are a city full of noise, a clamoring town, a joyous city; your slain are not slain by sword, nor are they dead from battle.

All your rulers have fled together; they were captured without a bow. All of your found ones were captured together; they fled from afar.

Therefore I said, 'Look away from me; I will weep bitterly; do not hasten to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people.'

For it is a day of confusion and of trampling and of crushing from Adonai, יהוה of Hosts, in the Valley of Vision, tearing down walls and crying out to the mountain.

And Elam took the quiver, with chariots of men, horsemen; and Qir uncovered the shield.

And it came to pass that your choicest valleys were filled with chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in battle array at the gate.

And he uncovered the covering of Yehudah, and you looked on that day to the armor of the House of the Forest.

And you saw the breaches of the City of David, for they were many; and you gathered the waters of the lower pool.

And you counted the houses of Yerushalayim, and you tore down houses to fortify the wall.

And you made a reservoir between the two walls for the waters of the old pool; but you did not look to its Maker, nor did you see him who fashioned it from afar.

And Adonai, יהוה of Hosts, called on that day to weeping and to mourning and to shaving the head and to wearing sackcloth.

And behold, joy and gladness, slaughtering cattle and killing sheep, eating meat and drinking wine: 'Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.'

And it was revealed in the ears of יהוה of Hosts, 'Surely this iniquity will not be forgiven you until you die,' says Adonai, יהוה of Hosts.

Thus says Adonai, יהוה of Hosts, 'Go, come to this official, to Shevna, who is over the House.'

What are you doing here, and who do you have here, that you have hewn yourself a tomb here, hewing your tomb on high, carving your dwelling in the rock?

Behold, יהוה will hurl you violently, O mighty man, and he will surely seize you.

He will surely toss you like a ball into a wide land; there you will die, and there your chariots of glory will be the shame of your master's house.

And I will drive you from your position, and from your station he will overthrow you.

And it will come to pass on that day that I will call my servant, Elyaqim son of Khilqiyahu.

And I will clothe him with your tunic, and I will gird him with your sash, and I will give your authority into his hand; and he will be a father to the inhabitants of Yerushalayim and to the House of Yehudah.

And I will place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; and he will open, and no one will shut; and he will shut, and no one will open.

And I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place, and he will be a throne of glory to the house of his father.

And they will hang on him all the glory of the house of his father, the offspring and the issue, all small vessels, from the bowls to all the jars.

On that day, declares יהוה of Hosts, the peg that is fastened in a secure place will be removed and will be cut down and will fall, and the burden that is on it will be destroyed, for יהוה has spoken.
