Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth, for יהוה has spoken: Sons I have raised and brought up, and they have rebelled against me.

An ox knows its owner, and a donkey its master's manger; Yisra'el does not know, my people does not understand.

Woe, sinful nation, people heavy with iniquity, offspring of evildoers, corrupt sons! They have forsaken יהוה, they have provoked the Holy One of Yisra'el, they have turned away.

On what basis are you struck further? You add rebellion. Every head is sick, and every heart is faint.

From the sole of the foot to the head, there is no soundness in it; wounds and bruises and fresh sores; they have not been pressed out, nor bound up, nor softened with oil.

Your land is a desolation, your cities are burned with fire, your fields—strangers are eating them before you, and a desolation like the overthrow of strangers.

And the daughter of Tsiyon is left like a booth in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.

Unless יהוה of hosts had left us a remnant, we would have become like Sedom, we would have been like Amorah.

Hear the word of יהוה, you rulers of Sedom; give ear to the instruction of our Elohim, you people of Amorah.

“What is the multitude of your sacrifices to me?” says יהוה. “I am full of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fattened animals; and the blood of bulls, of lambs, and of male goats, I do not delight in.

When you come to appear before me, who has required this from your hand, to trample my courtyards?

Do not bring further a vain offering; incense is an abomination to me; new moon and sabbath, the calling of a solemn assembly—I cannot bear iniquity and solemn meeting.

Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing.

And when you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even when you multiply prayer, I do not hear; your hands are full of blood.

Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease doing evil.

Learn to do good; seek justice, correct the oppressor; plead for the orphan, contend for the widow.

“Come now, and let us reason together,” says יהוה. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be like wool.

If you are willing and obey, you shall eat the good of the land;

but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword,” for the mouth of יהוה has spoken.

How has the faithful city become a harlot? She who was full of justice, righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.

Your silver has become dross, your wine mixed with water.

Your rulers are rebels and companions of thieves. Everyone loves a bribe and chases after rewards. They do not plead for the orphan, and the widow's cause does not come before them.

Therefore, declares the Adonai, יהוה of hosts, the Mighty One of Yisra'el: “Ah, I will ease myself of my adversaries and avenge myself on my enemies.

And I will turn my hand against you, and will smelt away your dross as with lye, and will remove all your tin.

And I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.”

Tsiyon shall be redeemed by justice, and those who return to her by righteousness.

But the destruction of transgressors and sinners shall be together, and those who forsake יהוה shall be consumed.

For they shall be ashamed of the terebinths which you have desired, and you shall be confounded for the gardens which you have chosen.

For you shall be like a terebinth whose leaf withers, and like a garden without water.

And the strong shall become tinder, and his work a spark, and both shall burn together, and no one shall quench.
