And Aḥitofel said to Avshalom, 'Please let me choose now twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue David tonight.'

'And I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed, and I will terrify him, and all the people who are with him will flee, and I will strike down the king alone.'

'And I will bring back all the people to you; the return of all is like the return of the man whom you seek; all the people will be in peace.'

'And the thing was right in the eyes of Avshalom and in the eyes of all the elders of Yisra'el.'

'And Avshalom said, 'Please call also Hushai the Arkite, and let us hear what is also in his mouth.''

'And Hushai came to Avshalom, and Avshalom spoke to him, saying, 'According to this word, did Aḥitofel advise? Shall we do his word, or not? You speak.''

'And Hushai said to Avshalom, 'The counsel which Aḥitofel advised this time is not good.''

'And Hushai said, 'You know your father and his men, that they are mighty, and they are bitter of spirit, like a bereaved bear in the field, and your father is a man of war, and he will not lodge with the people.''

'Behold, now he is hidden in one of the pits or in one of the places, and it will be that when they fall into them at first, the one who hears will hear and say, 'There has been a slaughter among the people who are after Avshalom.''

'And he also is a mighty man, whose heart is like the heart of a lion; he will surely melt away, because all Yisra'el knows that your father is mighty, and those with him are mighty men.'

'For my counsel is that all Yisra'el be gathered to you, from Dan even to Beer-Sheva, like the sand which is by the sea for multitude, and your presence will go in the battle.'

'And we will come upon him in one of the places where he is found, and we will fall upon him as the dew falls upon the ground, and not one of him nor all the men who are with him will remain.'

'And if he gathers himself into a city, then all Yisra'el will bring ropes to that city, and we will drag it to the stream until not even a pebble is found there.'

'And Avshalom and all the men of Yisra'el said, 'The counsel of Hushai the Arkite is good, better than the counsel of Aḥitofel.' And יהוה commanded to nullify the good counsel of Aḥitofel, in order to bring יהוה's evil upon Avshalom.'

'And Hushai said to Tsadoq and to Ebyatar the priests, 'This is what and this is what Aḥitofel advised Avshalom and the elders of Yisra'el, and this is what and this is what I advised.''

'And now, send quickly and tell David, saying, 'Do not lodge tonight in the plains of the wilderness, and also cross over; lest the king and all the people who are with him be swallowed up.''

'And Yonatan and Aḥima'ats were standing at En-rogel, and the female servant went and told them, and they went and told King David, because they could not be seen coming into the city.'

'And a youth saw them and told Avshalom, and the two of them went quickly and came to the house of a man in Baḥurim, and he had a well in his courtyard, and they went down there.'

'And the woman took and spread the covering over the mouth of the well, and spread the grain upon it, and nothing was known.'

'And the servants of Avshalom came to the woman in the house and said, 'Where are Aḥima'ats and Yonatan?' And the woman said to them, 'They have crossed the water.' And they searched and did not find them, and they returned to Yerushalayim.'

'And after they went, they came up from the well, and went and told King David, and said to David, 'Arise and cross the water quickly, because this is what Aḥitofel advised concerning you.''

'And David arose, and all the people who were with him, and they crossed the Yarden until the morning light; not one was missing who did not cross the Yarden.'

'And Aḥitofel saw that his counsel was not carried out, and he saddled his donkey, and arose and went to his house, to his city, and gave orders concerning his house, and he hanged himself and died, and was buried in the burial place of his father.'

'And David came to Maḥanayim, and Avshalom crossed the Yarden, he and all the men of Yisra'el with him.'

'And Avshalom appointed Amasa in place of Yo'av over the army, and Amasa was the son of a man, and his name was Yitro the Yisra'elite, who went in to Avigayil daughter of Naḥash, the sister of Tseryah, Yo'av's mother.'

'And Yisra'el and Avshalom encamped in the land of Gil'ad.'

'And when David came to Maḥanayim, Shovi son of Naḥash from Rabbat of the sons of Ammon, and Makir son of Ammi'el from Lo-debar, and Barzillai the Gil'adi from Rogelim.'

'Beds, and basins, and pottery vessels, and wheat, and barley, and flour, and parched grain, and fava beans, and lentils, and parched grain.'

'And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese of cows they brought to David and to the people who were with him to eat, because they said, 'The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty in the wilderness.''
