And יהוה sent Natan to David, and he came to him and said to him, 'Two men were in one city, one rich and one poor.'

To the rich man belonged flocks and herds, very many.

And to the poor man, nothing except one small ewe lamb, which he bought and kept alive, and it grew with him and with his sons together; from his portion it ate, and from his cup it drank, and in his lap it lay, and it was to him like a daughter.

And a traveler came to the rich man, and he spared taking from his flock and from his herd to make for the traveler who came to him, and he took the poor man's ewe lamb and made it for the man who came to him.

And David's anger burned greatly against the man, and he said to Natan, 'As יהוה lives, the man who did this is worthy of death.'

And the ewe lamb he shall repay fourfold, because he did this thing and because he had no pity.'

And Natan said to David, 'You are the man! Thus says יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el: 'I anointed you king over Yisra'el, and I delivered you from the hand of Sha'ul.'

And I gave to you your master's house, and your master's wives into your embrace, and I gave to you the house of Yisra'el and Yehudah, and if it was too little, I would have added to you more and more.'

'Why did you despise the word of יהוה to do evil in My sight? You struck Uriyah the Hittite with the sword, and you took his wife to you as a wife, and him you killed with the sword of the sons of Ammon.'

'And now, the sword shall not depart from your house forever, because you despised Me and took the wife of Uriyah the Hittite to be your wife.'

'Thus says יהוה: 'Behold, I am raising up evil against you from your own house, and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives before the eyes of this sun.'

'For you did it in secret, but I will do this thing before all Yisra'el and before the sun.'

And David said to Natan, 'I have sinned against יהוה.' And Natan said to David, 'Also, יהוה has caused your sin to pass; you shall not die.'

'However, because you have greatly despised יהוה's enemies with this deed, the son born to you shall surely die.'

And Natan went to his house. And יהוה struck the child that Uriyah's wife bore to David, and it became sick.

And David sought Elohim for the boy, and David fasted, and he came and spent the night lying on the ground.

And the elders of his house rose up to raise him from the ground, but he refused, and he would not eat bread with them.

And it came to pass on the seventh day that the child died. And David's servants feared to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, 'Behold, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he did not listen to our voice; how then shall we tell him the child is dead? He will do great harm.'

And David saw that his servants were whispering, and David understood that the child was dead. And David said to his servants, 'Is the child dead?' And they said, 'He is dead.'

And David rose from the ground, and he washed, and he anointed himself, and he changed his clothes, and he came into the house of יהוה and worshipped. And he came to his house, and he asked, and they set bread before him, and he ate.

And his servants said to him, 'What is this thing that you have done? For the child alive, you fasted and wept; and when the child died, you rose up and ate bread.'

And he said, 'While the child was still alive, I fasted and wept, for I said, 'Who knows if יהוה will be gracious to me, and the child will live?'

'But now that he is dead, why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I am going to him, but he shall not return to me.'

And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and he came to her and lay with her, and she bore a son and called his name Shelomoh. And יהוה loved him.

And he sent by the hand of Natan the prophet, and he called his name Yedidyah, for יהוה's sake.

And Yo'av fought against Rabbah of the sons of Ammon, and he captured the royal city.

And Yo'av sent messengers to David and said, 'I have fought against Rabbah, and I have also captured the city of waters.'

'And now, gather the rest of the people and encamp against the city and capture it, lest I capture the city and my name be called over it.'

And David gathered all the people and went to Rabbah, and he fought against it and captured it.

And he took the crown of their king from off his head, and its weight was a talent of gold, and precious stones, and it was on David's head. And he brought out the spoil of the city, very much.

And the people who were in it he brought out and put them to saws, and to iron picks, and to iron axes, and he made them pass through brick kilns. And so he did to all the cities of the sons of Ammon. And David returned, and all the people, to Yerushalayim.
