And it happened after this, and to Avshalom, son of David, was a sister beautiful, and her name Tamar, and Amnon, son of David, loved her.

And it was distressing to Amnon to become sick because of Tamar his sister, for she was a virgin, and it seemed strange to Amnon to do anything to her.

And to Amnon was a friend, and his name Yonadav, son of Shim'ah, David's brother, and Yonadav was a very wise man.

And he said to him, 'Why are you like this, a weakling, son of the king, morning after morning? Will you not tell me?' And Amnon said to him, 'Tamar, the sister of Avshalom my brother, I love.'

And Yonadav said to him, 'Lie down on your bed and pretend to be sick, and your father will come to see you, and you will say to him, 'Please let Tamar my sister come and prepare food for me, and make it before my eyes, so that I may see, and I will eat from her hand.''

And Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick, and the king came to see him, and Amnon said to the king, 'Please let Tamar my sister come and knead before my eyes, two cakes, and I will bake from her hand.'

And David sent to Tamar at home, saying, 'Please go to the house of Amnon your brother and make food for him.'

And Tamar went to the house of Amnon her brother, and he was lying down, and she took the dough and kneaded it before his eyes, and she baked the cakes.

And she took the pan and poured before him, and he refused to eat, and Amnon said, 'Send out everyone from me,' and everyone went out from him.

And Amnon said to Tamar, 'Bring the food into the chamber, and I will eat from your hand,' and Tamar took the cakes which she had made and brought them to Amnon her brother in the chamber.

And she brought them to him to eat, and he took hold of her, and said to her, 'Come, lie with me, my sister.'

And she said to him, 'No, my brother, do not violate me, for this should not be done in Yisra'el. Do not do this disgraceful thing.'

And where will I carry my shame? And you will be like one of the disgraceful ones in Yisra'el. And now, please speak to the king, for he will not withhold me from you.'

And he refused to listen to her voice, and he overpowered her, and violated her, and lay with her.

And Amnon hated her with a great hatred, for the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her, and Amnon said to her, 'Get up, go.'

And she said to him, 'No, because of this great evil, worse than the other, which you have done to me, send me away.' And he refused to listen to her.

And he called his servant who attended him and said, 'Please send this one out from me, outside, and lock the door behind her.'

And upon her was a tunic of many colors, for thus the virgin daughters of the king used to wear robes. And his attendant sent her out, and locked the door behind her.

And Tamar took ashes on her head, and the tunic of many colors that was upon her she tore, and she put her hand on her head, and went away, crying out.

And Avshalom her brother said to her, 'Was Amnon your brother with you? And now, my sister, be silent. He is your brother. Do not set your heart on this matter.' And Tamar lived desolate in the house of Avshalom her brother.

And King David heard all these words, and he was very angry.

And Avshalom did not speak to Amnon, neither bad nor good, for Avshalom hated Amnon because of the matter that he had violated Tamar his sister.

And it happened after two years, and they were shearing sheep for Avshalom in Ba'al-Ḥatsor, which is near Efrayim, and Avshalom invited all the king's sons.

And Avshalom came to the king and said, 'Look, your servant is shearing sheep. Please let the king and his servants go with your servant.'

And the king said to Avshalom, 'No, my son, please do not let us all go, lest it be a burden to you.' And he urged him, but he refused to go, and he blessed him.

And Avshalom said, 'But will Amnon my brother not go with us?' And the king said to him, 'Why should he go with you?'

And Avshalom urged him, and he sent Amnon and all the king's sons with him.

And Avshalom commanded his servants, saying, 'Look, when Amnon's heart is cheerful with wine, and I say to you, 'Strike Amnon,' then kill him. Do not fear. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and be valiant.'

And Avshalom's servants did to Amnon as Avshalom commanded, and all the king's sons got up, and each rode on his mule and fled.

And it happened, as they were on the way, and the report came to David, saying, 'Avshalom has struck down all the king's sons, and not one of them is left.'

And the king got up and tore his clothes and lay on the ground, and all his servants were standing with torn clothes.

And Yonadav, son of Shim'ah, David's brother, answered and said, 'Let not my Adonai say that all the young men, the king's sons, were killed, for only Amnon died, for it was planned by Avshalom from the day he violated Tamar his sister.'

And now, let not my Adonai the king set his heart on the matter, saying, 'All the king's sons died,' for only Amnon died.

And Avshalom fled, and the young man who was watching looked up and saw, and behold, a large crowd was coming from the way of the mountain behind him. And he came and told David.

And Yonadav said to the king, 'Behold, the king's sons have come, just as your servant said, so it has happened.'

And it happened, as he finished speaking, and behold, the king's sons came, and they raised their voices and wept, and also the king and all his servants wept with a very great weeping.

And Avshalom fled and went to Talmai, son of 'Amihud, king of Geshur, and he mourned for his son all the days.

And Avshalom fled and went to Geshur, and he was there three years.

And King David stopped pursuing Avshalom, for he had comforted himself concerning Amnon, since he was dead.
