And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets and said to him, 'Gird your loins and take this flask of oil in your hand and go to Ramot Gil'ad.'

'And you shall go there and see there Yehu son of Yehoshafat son of Nimshi, and you shall go and raise him up from among his brothers and bring him into an inner room.'

'And you shall take the flask of oil and pour it on his head and say, Thus says יהוה, I have anointed you king over Yisra'el, and you shall open the door and flee and not wait.'

'So the young man, the young man the prophet, went to Ramot Gil'ad.'

'And he came, and behold, the commanders of the army were sitting, and he said, I have a word for you, commander. And Yehu said to whom of all of us? And he said, For you, commander.'

'And he arose and went into the house, and he poured the oil on his head and said to him, Thus says יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el, I have anointed you king over the people of יהוה, over Yisra'el.'

'And you shall strike the house of Ach'av your master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of יהוה, from the hand of Yiz'avel.'

'And all the house of Ach'av shall perish, and I will cut off from Ach'av every male, one who is confined and one who is left in Yisra'el.'

'And I will make the house of Ach'av like the house of Yarov'am son of Nevat, and like the house of Ba'sha son of Aḥiyyah.'

'And Yiz'avel, the dogs shall eat her in the portion of Yizre'el, and there is no one to bury her. And he opened the door and fled.'

'And Yehu went out to the servants of his master, and he said to him, Is it peace? Why did this madman come to you? And he said to them, You know the man and his talk.'

'And they said, It is a lie. Tell us now. And he said, Thus and thus he said to me, saying, Thus says יהוה, I have anointed you king over Yisra'el.'

'And they hurried and each man took his garment and put it under him on the bare steps, and they blew the shofar and said, Yehu has become king.'

'And Yehu son of Yehoshafat son of Nimshi conspired against Yehoram. And Yehoram was keeping watch in Ramot Gil'ad, he and all Yisra'el, because of Ḥaza'el king of Aram.'

'And King Yehoram returned to be healed in Yizre'el from the wounds that the Arameans had inflicted on him when he fought with Ḥaza'el king of Aram. And Yehu said, If it is your desire, let no fugitive go out from the city to go to tell in Yizre'el.'

'And Yehu rode and went to Yizre'el, for Yehoram was lying there, and Aḥazyahu king of Yehudah had come down to see Yehoram.'

'And the watchman was standing on the tower in Yizre'el, and he saw the company of Yehu coming, and he said, I see a company. And Yehoram said, Take a rider and send to meet them and let him say, Is it peace?'

'And a horseman went to meet him and said, Thus says the king, Is it peace? And Yehu said, What is peace to you? Turn behind me. And the watchman reported, saying, The messenger came to them, and he did not return.'

'And he sent a second horseman, and he came to them and said, Thus says the king, Peace. And Yehu said, What is peace to you? Turn behind me.'

'And the watchman reported, saying, He came to them, and he did not return. And the driving is like the driving of Yehu son of Nimshi, for he drives in madness.'

'And Yehoram said, Harness. And he harnessed his chariot. And King Yehoram of Yisra'el and King Aḥazyahu of Yehudah went out, each in his chariot, to meet Yehu, and they met him in the portion of Navot the Yizre'elite.'

'And when Yehoram saw Yehu, he said, Is it peace, Yehu? And he said, What peace, as long as the whoredoms of Yiz'avel your mother and her many sorceries?'

'And Yehoram turned his hands and fled, and he said to Aḥazyahu, Treachery, Aḥazyahu.'

'And Yehu drew his bow with his hand and struck Yehoram between his shoulders, and the arrow went out from his heart, and he collapsed in his chariot.'

'And he said to Bidqar his captain, Take him and throw him in the portion of the field of Navot the Yizre'elite, because I remember, you and I, when we rode together behind Ach'av his father, and יהוה laid this burden upon him.'

'If not, the blood of Navot and the blood of his sons I saw yesterday, says יהוה. And I will repay you in this portion, says יהוה. Now therefore, take him and throw him in the portion, according to the word of יהוה.'

'And King Aḥazyahu of Yehudah saw, and he fled by the way of the garden house. And Yehu pursued after him and said, Strike him also in the chariot at the ascent of Gur, which is by Yiv'am, and he fled to Megiddo and died there.'

'And his servants carried him in the chariot to Yerushalayim, and they buried him in his burial place with his fathers in the city of David.'

'And in the eleventh year of Yehoram son of Ach'av, Aḥazyahu became king over Yehudah.'

'And Yehu came to Yizre'el. And Yiz'avel heard, and she painted her eyes and styled her head and looked out the window.'

'And Yehu came in the gate, and she said, Is it peace, Zimri, slayer of his master?'

'And he lifted his face to the window and said, Who is with me? Who? And two or three eunuchs looked down at him.'

'And he said, Throw her down. And they threw her down, and some of her blood splattered on the wall and on the horses, and he trampled her.'

'And he came and ate and drank and said, Please see to this cursed woman and bury her, for she is a king's daughter.'

'And they went to bury her, and they found nothing of her except the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands.'

'And they returned and told him. And he said, It is the word of יהוה, which he spoke by the hand of his servant Eliyahu the Tishbite, saying, In the portion of Yizre'el the dogs shall eat the flesh of Yiz'avel.'

'And the corpse of Yiz'avel shall be like dung on the face of the field in the portion of Yizre'el, so that they will not say, This is Yiz'avel.'
