And to Aḥab, seventy sons in Shomron. And Yehu wrote letters and sent to Shomron to the elders of Yisra'el, and to the ones who were loyal to Aḥab, saying:

And now, when this letter comes to you, and with you are the sons of your masters, and with you are the chariot and the horses, and a fortified city, and the weapons:

And you will see what is good and right among the sons of your masters, and you will place one on the throne of his father, and you will fight for the house of your masters.

And they feared exceedingly. And they said, 'Look, the two kings did not stand before him, and how will we stand?'

And he who was over the house, and he who was over the city, and the elders, and the loyal ones sent to Yehu, saying, 'We are your servants, and we will do whatever you say to us. We will not enthrone any man. Do what is good in your eyes.'

And he wrote to them a second letter, saying, 'If you are for me, and you listen to my voice, take the heads of the men, the sons of your masters, and come to me tomorrow at Yizre'el.' And the king's sons, seventy men, were with the great men of the city, who were raising them.

And it happened when the letter came to them, and they took the king's sons, and they slaughtered seventy men. And they placed their heads in baskets, and they sent them to him at Yizre'el.

And the messenger came and told him, saying, 'They brought the heads of the king's sons.' And he said, 'Place them in two piles at the entrance of the gate until morning.'

And it happened in the morning, and he went out and stood, and he said to all the people, 'You are righteous. Look, I conspired against my master and I killed him. And who struck down all these?'

'Know then that nothing of the word of יהוה will fall to the ground, which יהוה spoke concerning the house of Aḥab. And יהוה has done what he spoke by the hand of his servant Eliyah.

And Yehu struck down all who remained of the house of Aḥab in Yizre'el, and all his nobles, and his intimate friends, and his priests, until he left no survivor for him.

And he arose and went and journeyed to Shomron. He was at the house of the shepherds, the sheep-shearers, on the way.

And Yehu found the brothers of Aḥazyahu, king of Yehudah, and he said, 'Who are you?' And they said, 'We are the brothers of Aḥazyahu, and we have come down to see the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother.'

And he said, 'Seize them alive.' And they seized them alive, and they slaughtered them at the pit of the sheep-shearers, forty-two men. And he left no one among them.

And he went from there and found Yehonadav, son of Rekhav, coming to meet him. And he blessed him and said to him, 'Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart?' And Yehonadav said, 'It is.' 'Give your hand.' And he gave his hand, and he brought him up to him into the chariot.

And he said, 'Come with me and see my zeal for יהוה.' And they mounted him on his chariot.

And he came to Shomron and struck down all who remained of Aḥab in Shomron, until he destroyed them, according to the word of יהוה which he spoke to Eliyah.

And Yehu gathered all the people and said to them, 'Aḥab served Ba'al a little; Yehu will serve him much.'

'And now, all the prophets of Ba'al, all his worshippers, and all his priests, call to me. Let no man be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Ba'al. Whoever is missing will not live.' And Yehu acted with cunning, in order to destroy the worshippers of Ba'al.

And Yehu said, 'Proclaim a solemn assembly for Ba'al.' And they proclaimed.

And Yehu sent throughout all Yisra'el, and all the worshippers of Ba'al came. And there was no one left who did not come. And they came into the house of Ba'al, and the house of Ba'al was filled from one end to the other.

And he said to the one who was over the wardrobe, 'Bring out vestments for all the worshippers of Ba'al.' And he brought out vestments for them.

And Yehu and Yehonadav, son of Rekhav, came into the house of Ba'al. And he said to the worshippers of Ba'al, 'Search and see that no servants of יהוה are here with you, but only worshippers of Ba'al.'

And they came to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. And Yehu stationed eighty men outside. And he said, 'The man who lets escape any of the men whom I am bringing into your hands – his life will be for his life.'

And it happened when he finished offering the burnt offering, and Yehu said to the runners and to the captains, 'Come in, strike them down. Let no man go out.' And they struck them down by the edge of the sword. And the runners and the captains threw them down and went to the city of the house of Ba'al.

And they brought out the pillars of the house of Ba'al and burned them.

And they tore down the pillar of Ba'al, and they tore down the house of Ba'al, and they made it into latrines until this day.

And Yehu destroyed Ba'al from Yisra'el.

Only the sins of Yarov'am, son of Nevat, which he caused Yisra'el to sin, Yehu did not turn away from them – the golden calves that were in Beit-El and that were in Dan.

And יהוה said to Yehu, 'Because you have done well in doing what is right in my eyes, according to all that was in my heart, you have done to the house of Aḥab, sons of the fourth generation will sit on the throne of Yisra'el.'

But Yehu did not take care to walk in the law of יהוה Elohim of Yisra'el with all his heart. He did not turn away from the sins of Yarov'am, which he caused Yisra'el to sin.

In those days, יהוה began to cut back Yisra'el, and Ḥaza'el struck them in all the territory of Yisra'el.

From the Jordan, east of the sun, all the land of Gil'ad, the Gadites, and the Re'uvenites, and the Menashehites, from Aro'er, which is by the Arnon stream, and Gil'ad and Bashan.

And the rest of the deeds of Yehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra'el?

And Yehu rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Shomron. And Yeho'aḥaz his son reigned in his place.

And the days that Yehu reigned over Yisra'el were twenty-eight years in Shomron.
