Na'aman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man before his adonai and honored, because through him יהוה had given deliverance to Aram. And the man was a mighty man of valor, a leper.

Aram raiding bands went out and captured from the land of Yisra'el a little girl, and she was before Na'aman's wife.

She said to her mistress, 'If only my adon were before the prophet who is in Shomron! Then he would recover him from his leprosy.'

He went and told his adon, saying, 'The girl who is from the land of Yisra'el spoke thus and thus.'

The king of Aram said, 'Go, and I will send a letter to the king of Yisra'el.' He went and took in his hand ten talents of silver, six thousand [shekels of] gold, and ten changes of clothes.

He brought the letter to the king of Yisra'el, saying, 'Now when this letter comes to you, see, I have sent Na'aman my servant to you, that you may recover him from his leprosy.'

When the king of Yisra'el read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, 'Am I Elohim, to kill and make alive, that this one sends to me to recover a man from his leprosy? But please know and see that he is seeking a quarrel with me.'

When Elish'a, man of the Elohim, heard that the king of Yisra'el had torn his clothes, he sent to the king, saying, 'Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come now to me, and he will know that there is a prophet in Yisra'el.'

Na'aman came with his horses and chariot and stood at the entrance of the house of Elish'a.

Elish'a sent a messenger to him, saying, 'Go and wash seven times in the Yarden, and your flesh will be restored to you, and you will be clean.'

Na'aman was angry and went away and said, 'I thought surely he would come out, stand and call on the name of יהוה his Elohim, and wave his hand over the place and recover the leper.'

Are not the Amanah and the Parpar, rivers of Dammeseq, better than all the waters of Yisra'el? Could I not wash in them and be clean?' He turned and went away in hot anger.

His servants approached and spoke to him, 'My father, if the prophet had spoken a great thing to you, would you not do it? How much more since he said to you, Wash and be clean?'

He went down and immersed in the Yarden seven times according to the word of the man of the Elohim, and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little boy, and he was clean.

He returned to the man of the Elohim, he and all his camp, came and stood before him and said, 'See now, I know that there is no Elohim in all the earth except in Yisra'el. Now please take a blessing from your servant.'

He said, 'As יהוה lives, before whom I stand, if I accept it.' He urged him to accept, but he refused.

Na'aman said, 'If not, please let there be given to your servant a load of two mules' [worth of] earth, for no longer will your servant offer burnt offering or sacrifice to other elohim, but only to יהוה.'

For this matter may יהוה pardon your servant: when my adon goes into the house of Rimmon to bow down there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the house of Rimmon, when I bow down in the house of Rimmon, may יהוה please pardon your servant in this matter.'

He said to him, 'Go in peace.' He went from him a good distance of land.

Geḥazi, the servant of Elish'a man of the Elohim, said, 'My adon has spared Na'aman this Aramean by not accepting from his hand what he brought. As יהוה lives, I will run after him and take something from him.'

Geḥazi pursued after Na'aman. Na'aman saw [him] running after him, so he got down from the chariot to meet him and said, 'Is it peace?'

He said, 'Peace, my adon. He sent me saying, Just now two young men came to me from the hill country of Efrayim, from the sons of the prophets. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of clothes.'

Na'aman said, 'Be pleased to take two talents.' He urged him, and he bound two talents of silver in two bags and two changes of clothes, and gave [them] to two of his servants, and they carried [them] before him.

He came to the hill and took from their hand and deposited in the house, and sent away the men, and they went.

He came and stood before his adon. Elish'a said to him, 'From where, Geḥazi?' He said, 'Your servant has not gone here or there.'

He said to him, 'Did not my heart go as the man turned from his chariot to meet you? Is it time to accept silver, and to accept clothes, olives and vineyards, sheep and cattle, male and female slaves?'

The leprosy of Na'aman will cling to you and to your offspring forever.' He went out from before him a leper [white] as snow.
