Yoshiyahu was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Yerushalayim, and the name of his mother was Yidiydah daughter of 'Adayah from Botsaqath.

And he did what was right in the eyes of יהוה, and he walked in all the way of David his father, and did not turn right or left.

And it happened in the eighteenth year of King Yoshiyahu, the king sent Shafan son of 'Atzalyahu son of Meshulam the scribe to the house of יהוה, saying:

Go up to Hilqiyahu the chief priest, and let him gather the silver brought into the house of יהוה, which the doorkeepers have collected from the people.

And let them give it to the workers who are in charge in the house of יהוה, and let them give it to the workers in the house of יהוה to repair the damage of the house.

To the craftsmen and to the builders and to the masons, and to buy wood and cut stone to strengthen the house.

However, the silver given into their hands is not to be accounted for with them, for they are doing the work faithfully.

And Hilqiyahu the chief priest said to Shafan the scribe, 'I have found the scroll of the Teaching in the house of יהוה.' And Hilqiyahu gave the scroll to Shafan, and he read it.

And Shafan the scribe came to the king and reported to the king, saying, 'Your servants have melted down the silver found in the house and given it to the workers who are in charge in the house of יהוה.'

And Shafan the scribe told the king, saying, 'Hilqiyahu the priest gave me a scroll.' And Shafan read it before the king.

And it happened when the king heard the words of the scroll of the Teaching, he tore his clothes.

And the king commanded Hilqiyahu the priest, and 'Aḥiqam son of Shafan, and 'Akhbor son of Miykhayah, and Shafan the scribe, and 'Asayah the king's servant, saying:

Go, inquire of יהוה for me, and for the people, and for all Yehudah, concerning the words of this scroll that has been found, for great is the wrath of יהוה which is kindled against us, because our fathers did not listen to the words of this scroll, to do according to all that is written concerning us.

And Hilqiyahu the priest, and 'Aḥiqam, and 'Akhbor, and Shafan, and 'Asayah went to Ḥuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum son of Tiqwah son of Ḥarḥas, the keeper of the garments, and she lived in Yerushalayim in the Mishneh, and they spoke to her.

And she said to them, 'Thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Tell the man who sent you to me:

Thus says יהוה, 'Behold, I am bringing disaster upon this place and upon its inhabitants, all the words of the scroll which the king of Yehudah has read.

Because they have forsaken me and have burned incense to other elohim, to provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, and my wrath is kindled against this place and will not be quenched.'

And to the king of Yehudah who sent you to inquire of יהוה, thus you shall say to him: Thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el, concerning the words which you have heard:

'Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before יהוה when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before me, I also have heard,' declares יהוה.

'Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see all the disaster which I am bringing upon this place.' And they brought back word to the king.
