And it happened, as יהוה was causing Eliyahu to ascend to the heavens in a whirlwind, that Eliyahu went, and Elisha from Gilgal.

And Eliyahu said to Elisha, 'Remain here, please, because יהוה has sent me to Beit-El.' And Elisha said, 'As יהוה lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.' And they went down to Beit-El.

And the sons of the prophets who were in Beit-El came out to Elisha, and they said to him, 'Do you know that today יהוה will take your master from over your head?' And he said, 'I also know; be silent.'

And Eliyahu said to him, 'Elisha, remain here, please, because יהוה has sent me to Yericho.' And he said, 'As יהוה lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.' And they came to Yericho.

And the sons of the prophets who were in Yericho approached Elisha, and they said to him, 'Do you know that today יהוה will take your master from over your head?' And he said, 'I also know; be silent.'

And Eliyahu said to him, 'Remain here, please, because יהוה has sent me to the Yarden.' And he said, 'As יהוה lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you.' And the two of them went.

And fifty men from the sons of the prophets went, and they stood opposite from a distance, and the two of them stood by the Yarden.

And Eliyahu took his cloak, and he rolled it up, and he struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, and the two of them crossed on dry ground.

And it happened as they crossed, and Eliyahu said to Elisha, 'Ask what I should do for you before I am taken from you.' And Elisha said, 'Let a double portion of your spirit be upon me, please.'

And he said, 'You have asked a difficult thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it will be so for you; but if not, it will not be.'

And it happened as they went on, walking and speaking, and behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire, and they separated between the two of them, and Eliyahu ascended in a whirlwind to the heavens.

And Elisha was watching, and he cried out, 'My father, my father, the chariot of Yisra'el and its horsemen!' And he did not see him again. And he grasped his clothes and tore them into two pieces.

And he picked up Eliyahu's cloak, which had fallen from him, and he returned and stood on the bank of the Yarden.

And he took Eliyahu's cloak, which had fallen from him, and he struck the waters and said, 'Where is יהוה, the Elohim of Eliyahu?' Even he! And he struck the waters, and they were divided here and there, and Elisha crossed.

And the sons of the prophets who were in Yericho saw him from opposite, and they said, 'The spirit of Eliyahu rests upon Elisha.' And they came to meet him, and they bowed to the ground before him.

And they said to him, 'Behold, please, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Let them go, please, and search for your master, lest the spirit of יהוה has carried him off and cast him upon one of the mountains or into one of the valleys.' And he said, 'Do not send.'

And they urged him until shame, and he said, 'Send.' And they sent fifty men, and they searched for three days, and they did not find him.

And they returned to him, and he was sitting in Yericho, and he said to them, 'Did I not say to you, Do not go?'

And the men of the city said to Elisha, 'Behold, the dwelling place of the city is good, as my master sees, but the waters are bad, and the land is causing loss.'

And he said, 'Bring me a new jar, and put salt in it.' And they brought it to him.

And he went out to the spring of the waters, and he threw salt there, and he said, 'Thus says יהוה, I have healed these waters; from there will be no more death or loss.'

And the waters were healed until this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke.

And he went up from there to Beit-El, and as he was going up on the way, young boys came out from the city, and they mocked him, and they said to him, 'Go up, baldhead! Go up, baldhead!'

And he turned around behind him and saw them, and he cursed them in the name of יהוה. And two she-bears came out from the forest and mauled forty-two of the children from them.

And he went from there to Mount Karmel, and from there he returned to Shomron.
