In the second year of Yo'ash king of Yisra'el, Amatsyahu son of Yo'ash king of Yehudah began to reign.

Amatsyahu was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Yerushalayim. His mother's name was Yehoyadan from Yerushalayim.

He did what was right in the eyes of יהוה, but not like David his ancestor. He did according to all that Yo'ash his father had done.

Only the high places were not removed. The people still sacrificed and made offerings on the high places.

When the kingship was strong in his hand, he struck down his servants who had struck down the king his father.

But he did not put to death the children of those who struck him, as it is written in the scroll of the Torah of Mosheh, which יהוה commanded, saying, 'Fathers shall not be put to death for children, nor shall children be put to death for fathers, but each shall be put to death for his own sin.'

He struck down the Edomites in the Valley of Salt, ten thousand men, and captured Sela in war, and called its name Yoqte'el, which it is called to this day.

Then Amatsyahu sent messengers to Yo'ash son of Yo'aḥaz son of Yehu, king of Yisra'el, saying, 'Come, let us face each other.'

But Yo'ash king of Yisra'el sent to Amatsyahu king of Yehudah, saying, 'The thistle that was in the Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in the Lebanon, saying, “Give your daughter to my son as wife.” But a wild animal that was in the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle.'

'You have struck down Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Be proud and stay in your house. Why provoke disaster, so that you and Yehudah fall with you?'

But Amatsyahu did not listen. So Yo'ash king of Yisra'el went up, and he and Amatsyahu king of Yehudah faced each other at Beit-Shemesh, which belongs to Yehudah.

Yehudah was defeated before Yisra'el, and each man fled to his tent.

And Yo'ash king of Yisra'el captured Amatsyahu king of Yehudah, son of Yo'ash, son of Aḥazyahu, at Beit-Shemesh. He came to Yerushalayim and broke down the wall of Yerushalayim from the Gate of Efrayim to the Corner Gate, four hundred cubits.

And he took all the gold and silver, and all the vessels found in the house of יהוה and in the treasuries of the king's house, and also hostages, and returned to Shomron.

Now the rest of the deeds of Yo'ash which he did, and his valor, and how he fought with Amatsyahu king of Yehudah, are they not written in the scroll of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra'el?

And Yo'ash lay down with his fathers and was buried in Shomron with the kings of Yisra'el. And Yarov'am his son reigned in his place.

Amatsyahu son of Yo'ash, king of Yehudah, lived fifteen years after the death of Yo'ash son of Yo'aḥaz, king of Yisra'el.

Now the rest of the deeds of Amatsyahu, are they not written in the scroll of the chronicles of the kings of Yehudah?

But a conspiracy was made against him in Yerushalayim, and he fled to Lakish. So they sent after him to Lakish and killed him there.

And they carried him on horses, and he was buried in Yerushalayim with his fathers in the city of David.

And all the people of Yehudah took Azaryahu, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amatsyahu.

He rebuilt Elat and restored it to Yehudah, after the king lay down with his fathers.

In the fifteenth year of Amatsyahu son of Yo'ash, king of Yehudah, Yarov'am son of Yo'ash, king of Yisra'el, began to reign in Shomron, and he reigned forty-one years.

And he did what was evil in the eyes of יהוה. He did not turn from all the sins of Yarov'am son of Nevat, who caused Yisra'el to sin.

He restored the border of Yisra'el from Hamat to the Sea of the Arabah, according to the word of יהוה Elohei Yisra'el, which He spoke through His servant Yonah son of Amitai, the prophet who was from Gat-Hefer.

For יהוה saw that the suffering of Yisra'el was very bitter, and that there was none shut up or left, nor any helper for Yisra'el.

And יהוה did not say He would blot out the name of Yisra'el from under heaven, but He saved them by the hand of Yarov'am son of Yo'ash.

Now the rest of the deeds of Yarov'am, and all that he did, and his valor, and how he recovered Damascus and Hamat for Yehudah in Yisra'el, are they not written in the scroll of the chronicles of the kings of Yisra'el?

And Yarov'am lay down with his fathers, with the kings of Yisra'el. And Zekharyah his son reigned in his place.
