And Athalyah, mother of Aḥazyahu, saw that her son was dead, and she arose and destroyed all the seed of the kingdom.

But Yehosheva', daughter of King Yoram, sister of Aḥazyahu, took Yo'ash, son of Aḥazyahu, and stole him from among the sons of the king who were being killed, him and his nurse, in the chamber of beds. And they hid him from Athalyah, and he was not killed.

And he was with her in the house of יהוה hiding for six years, and Athalyah was ruling over the land.

And in the seventh year, Yehoyada' sent and took the captains of the hundreds, of the Karetites and of the runners, and brought them to him into the house of יהוה. And he made a covenant with them there in the house of יהוה, and swore them, and showed them the king's son.

And he commanded them, saying, 'This is the thing that you shall do: a third of you who come in on the Sabbath, and who guard the watch of the king's house.

And a third at the gate of Sur, and a third at the gate behind the runners. And you shall guard the watch of the house, not leaving.

And two divisions of you, all who go out on the Sabbath, shall guard the watch of the house of יהוה, near the king.

And you shall surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand. And the one who comes into the colonnades shall be killed. And you shall be with the king, when he goes out and when he comes in.

And the captains of the hundreds did according to all that Yehoyada' the priest commanded. And each man took his men, those who came in on the Sabbath with those who went out on the Sabbath, and they came to Yehoyada' the priest.

And the priest gave to the captains of the hundreds the spears and the shields that belonged to King David, which were in the house of יהוה.

And the runners stood, each man with his weapons in his hand, from the right shoulder of the house to the left shoulder of the house, by the altar and by the house, around the king.

And he brought out the king's son, and put on him the diadem and the testimony. And they made him king, and anointed him. And they clapped their hands and said, 'Long live the king!'

And Athalyah heard the sound of the runners, the people, and she came to the people into the house of יהוה.

And she looked, and behold, the king was standing by the pillar, according to the custom. And the captains and the trumpeters were by the king. And all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. And Athalyah tore her clothes and cried out, 'Treason! Treason!'

And Yehoyada' the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the army, and said to them, 'Take her out beyond the colonnades. And the one who follows her, kill with the sword.' For the priest had said, 'Do not kill her in the house of יהוה.'

And they laid hands on her. And she went by the way of the entrance of the horses to the king's house, and she was killed there.

And Yehoyada' made a covenant between יהוה and between the king and between the people, to be a people for יהוה, and between the king and between the people.

And all the people of the land went into the house of Ba'al and tore it down. Its altars and its images they broke in pieces thoroughly. And they killed Mattan, the priest of Ba'al, before the altars. And the priest set watches over the house of יהוה.

And he took the captains of the hundreds, and the Karetites, and the runners, and all the people of the land. And they brought down the king from the house of יהוה. And they came by the way of the gate of the runners to the king's house. And he sat on the throne of the kings.

And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. And Athalyah they killed with the sword in the king's house.
