Yoshiyahu was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Yerushalayim.

And he did what was right in the eyes of יהוה, and walked in the ways of David his father, and did not turn aside to the right or to the left.

And in the eighth year of his reign, while he was still a youth, he began to seek the Elohim of David his father, and in the twelfth year he began to cleanse Yehudah and Yerushalayim from the high places, and the Asherah poles, and the carved images, and the molten images.

And they broke down before him the altars of the Baalim, and the sun pillars that were above them he cut down, and the Asherah poles, and the carved images, and the molten images he broke and crushed, and scattered them on the graves of those who sacrificed to them.

And the bones of the priests he burned on their altars, and he cleansed Yehudah and Yerushalayim.

And in the cities of Menashsheh, and Efrayim, and Shim'on, and even Naphtali, in their surrounding ruins.

And he broke down the altars and the Asherah poles, and the carved images he crushed to powder, and all the sun pillars he cut down throughout all the land of Yisra'el, and then he returned to Yerushalayim.

And in the eighteenth year of his reign, to cleanse the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azalyahu, and Ma'aseyah the governor of the city, and Yo'aḥ the son of Yo'aḥaz the recorder, to strengthen the house of יהוה his Elohim.

And they came to Hilqiyahu the chief priest, and they gave the silver that was brought into the house of Elohim, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered from Menashsheh, and Efrayim, and from all the remnant of Yisra'el, and from all Yehudah and Binyamin, and they returned to Yerushalayim.

And they gave it into the hand of the workers who were in charge of the house of יהוה, and the workers who were working in the house of יהוה gave it to check and to repair the house.

And they gave it to the stonecutters and to the builders to buy quarried stone and timber for beams, and to repair the houses which the kings of Yehudah had ruined.

And the men worked faithfully in the task, and over them were appointed Yaḥath and 'Ovadyahu the Levites, from the sons of Merari, and Zekharyahu and Meshullam from the sons of Qehath, to oversee, and all the Levites who understood musical instruments.

And over the porters and the overseers for every worker for the work and the task, and from the Levites were scribes, and officers, and gatekeepers.

And as they were bringing out the silver that was brought into the house of יהוה, Hilqiyahu the priest found the book of the Torah of יהוה by the hand of Mosheh.

And Hilqiyahu answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, 'I have found the book of the Torah in the house of יהוה.' And Hilqiyahu gave the book to Shaphan.

And Shaphan brought the book to the king, and he also reported to the king, saying, 'Everything that was given into the hand of your servants, they are doing.'

And they melted down the silver that was found in the house of יהוה and gave it into the hand of those in charge and into the hand of the workers.

And Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, 'Hilqiyahu the priest gave me a book.' And Shaphan read from it before the king.

And when the king heard the words of the Torah, he tore his clothes.

And the king commanded Hilqiyahu, and Aḥiqam the son of Shaphan, and 'Avdon the son of Mikha, and Shaphan the scribe, and 'Asayahu the king's servant, saying:

'Go, inquire of יהוה for me and for the remnant in Yisra'el and in Yehudah concerning the words of the book that was found, for great is the wrath of יהוה which is poured out on us, because our fathers did not keep the word of יהוה to do according to all that is written in this book.'

And Hilqiyahu and those whom the king had sent went to Ḥuldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of [Teqha] the son of Ḥasra, the keeper of the wardrobe, and she lived in Yerushalayim in the Mishneh, and they spoke to her thus.

And she said to them, 'Thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Tell the man who sent you to me:

'Thus says יהוה, Behold, I am bringing disaster on this place and on its inhabitants, all the curses written in the book which they read before the king of Yehudah.

'Because they have forsaken me and have sacrificed to other elohim, to provoke me with all the works of their hands, and my wrath will be poured out on this place and will not be quenched.'

'And to the king of Yehudah who sent you to inquire of יהוה, thus you shall say to him: Thus says יהוה, the Elohim of Yisra'el: Concerning the words which you have heard,

'Because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before Elohim when you heard his words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before me, and tore your clothes, and wept before me, I also have heard, declares יהוה.

'Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace, and your eyes will not see all the disaster that I am bringing on this place and on its inhabitants.' And they brought back word to the king.

And the king sent and gathered all the elders of Yehudah and Yerushalayim.

And the king went up to the house of יהוה, and all the men of Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, from the great to the small, and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of יהוה.

And the king stood on his platform and made a covenant before יהוה, to walk after יהוה and to keep his commandments, his testimonies, and his statutes with all his heart and with all his soul, to carry out the words of the covenant that are written in this book.

And he made all who were present in Yerushalayim and Binyamin stand, and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim did according to the covenant of Elohim, the Elohim of their fathers.

And Yoshiyahu removed all the abominations from all the lands belonging to the sons of Yisra'el, and he served all who were found in Yisra'el to serve יהוה their Elohim. All his days they did not turn away from יהוה, the Elohim of their fathers.
