After these matters and this truth, Sanḥeriv, king of Ashshur, came and entered into Yehudah and encamped against the fortified cities, and he said to break them open to himself.

And Yeḥizqiyah saw that Sanḥeriv had come, and his face was toward war against Yerushalayim.

And he consulted with his officers and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside the city, and they helped him.

And a great people gathered, and they stopped all the springs and the stream flowing in the midst of the land, saying, 'Why should the kings of Ashshur come and find much water?'

And he strengthened himself and built all the broken wall, and he ascended to the towers, and outside the wall another, and he strengthened the Millo, the city of David, and he made many weapons and shields.

And he appointed war commanders over the people, and he gathered them to himself in the square of the city gate, and he spoke to their heart, saying:

'Be strong and courageous; do not fear and do not be dismayed because of the king of Ashshur and because of all the multitude that is with him, for with us is one greater than with him.'

'With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is יהוה our Elohim to help us and to fight our battles.' And the people relied on the words of Yeḥizqiyah, king of Yehudah.

After this, Sanḥeriv, king of Ashshur, sent his servants to Yerushalayim, and he was at Lakish, and all his kingdom was with him, against Yeḥizqiyah, king of Yehudah, and against all Yehudah who were in Yerushalayim, saying:

'Thus says Sanḥeriv, king of Ashshur, 'On what are you relying, that you are dwelling in a fortified place in Yerushalayim?'

'Is it not Yeḥizqiyah who is misleading you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, 'יהוה our Elohim will deliver us from the hand of the king of Ashshur'?'

'Is it not this Yeḥizqiyah who removed his high places and his altars, and said to Yehudah and to Yerushalayim, 'Before one altar you shall bow down, and on it you shall offer incense'?'

'Do you not know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands able to deliver their land from my hand?'

'Which among all the gods of these nations, whom my fathers utterly destroyed, was able to deliver his people from my hand? How much less will your Elohim be able to deliver you from my hand?'

'And now, do not let Yeḥizqiyah deceive you, and do not let him mislead you like this, and do not believe him, for no Elohim of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people from my hand and from the hand of my fathers; how much less will your Elohim deliver you from my hand?'

'And his servants spoke further against יהוה the Elohim, and against Yeḥizqiyah his servant.'

'And he wrote letters to insult יהוה Elohim of Yisra'el, and to speak against him, saying, 'Like the gods of the nations of the lands, who did not deliver their people from my hand, so the Elohim of Yeḥizqiyah will not deliver his people from my hand.''

'And they called out in a loud voice in Yehudah's language to the people of Yerushalayim who were on the wall, to make them fear and to make them tremble, so that they might capture the city.'

'And they spoke concerning the Elohim of Yerushalayim as concerning the gods of the peoples of the land, the work of human hands.'

'And King Yeḥizqiyah and Yeshayahu the prophet, son of Amos, prayed about this, and they cried out to heaven.'

'And יהוה sent an angel, and he cut down every mighty warrior, and leader, and officer in the camp of the king of Ashshur. And he returned with shame on his face to his land. And he came into the house of his Elohim, and from the offspring of his own body, there they struck him down with the sword.'

'And יהוה saved Yeḥizqiyah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim from the hand of Sanḥeriv, king of Ashshur, and from the hand of all, and he protected them from all around.'

'And many brought a gift to יהוה in Yerushalayim, and precious gifts to Yeḥizqiyah, king of Yehudah, and he was exalted in the eyes of all the nations from that time onward.'

'In those days, Yeḥizqiyah was sick unto death, and he prayed to יהוה, and he spoke to him, and he gave him a sign.'

'And Yeḥizqiyah did not repay according to the benefit done to him, for his heart became proud, and wrath came upon him and upon Yehudah and Yerushalayim.'

'And Yeḥizqiyah humbled himself because of his proud heart, he and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim, and the wrath of יהוה did not come upon them in the days of Yeḥizqiyah.'

'And Yeḥizqiyah had abundant wealth and honor, and he made for himself many treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all desirable vessels.'

'And storehouses for the produce of grain and new wine and oil, and stalls for every animal and for flocks, and folds for the sheep.'

'And he made cities for himself, and flocks of sheep and cattle in abundance, for Elohim gave him very great riches.'

'And this Yeḥizqiyah stopped the outflow of the upper Gihon waters, and he directed them downward westward to the city of David, and Yeḥizqiyah succeeded in all his works.'

'And likewise, the envoys of the princes of Babel, who were sent to him to inquire about the sign that had occurred in the land, Elohim forsook him to test him, to know all that was in his heart.'

'And the rest of the matters of Yeḥizqiyah and his acts of kindness, behold, they are written in the vision of Yeshayahu the prophet, son of Amos, in the book of the kings of Yehudah and Yisra'el.'

'And Yeḥizqiyah rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David, and all Yehudah and the inhabitants of Yerushalayim showed him honor at his death, and his son Menašeh reigned in his place.'
