Yo'ash was seven years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years in Yerushalayim. His mother's name was Tsivyah from Beer-Sheva.

Yo'ash did what was right in the eyes of יהוה all the days of Yehoyada the priest.

Yehoyada took two wives for himself, and he fathered sons and daughters.

It happened after this, Yo'ash had it in his heart to repair the house of יהוה.

He gathered the priests and the Levites and said to them, 'Go out to the cities of Yehudah and collect from all of Yisra'el money to strengthen the house of your Elohim, year by year. And you, hasten the matter.' But the Levites did not hasten.

The king called for Yehoyada the chief priest and said to him, 'Why have you not required the Levites to bring from Yehudah and from Yerushalayim the contribution of Mosheh, servant of יהוה, and of the assembly of Yisra'el for the tent of the testimony?'

For Athalyah the wicked woman, her sons had broken into the house of Elohim, and also all the holy things of the house of יהוה they made for the Ba'alim.

So the king commanded, and they made one chest, and they set it up outside at the gate of the house of יהוה.

They made a proclamation in Yehudah and in Yerushalayim to bring to יהוה the contribution of Mosheh, servant of Elohim, upon Yisra'el in the wilderness.

All the officials and all the people rejoiced, and they brought and threw into the chest until it was full.

It happened when the chest was brought to the king's office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that the money was abundant, the king's scribe and the officer of the chief priest came, and they emptied the chest, and carried it back to its place. Thus they did day by day, and they collected much money.

The king and Yehoyada gave it to those who did the work of the service of the house of יהוה. And they hired stonecutters and craftsmen to repair the house of יהוה, and also iron and bronze workers to strengthen the house of יהוה.

The workers worked, and the repair progressed in their hands, and they set the house of Elohim on its foundation and strengthened it.

When they finished, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Yehoyada, and it was made into vessels for the house of יהוה, service vessels and burnt offering vessels and bowls, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the house of יהוה continually all the days of Yehoyada.

Yehoyada grew old and was satisfied with days, and he died. He was 130 years old at his death.

They buried him in the city of David with the kings, because he had done good in Yisra'el, and toward Elohim and his house.

After the death of Yehoyada, the officials of Yehudah came and bowed down to the king. Then the king listened to them.

They abandoned the house of יהוה, Elohim of their fathers, and served the Asherah poles and the idols. And wrath came upon Yehudah and Yerushalayim because of their guilt.

He sent prophets to them to turn them back to יהוה, and they testified against them, but they did not listen.

The Spirit of Elohim clothed ZakharYah, son of Yehoyada the priest, and he stood above the people and said to them, 'Thus says Elohim: Why do you transgress the commands of יהוה, and you will not succeed? Because you have forsaken יהוה, He has forsaken you.'

They conspired against him and stoned him with stones at the command of the king in the courtyard of the house of יהוה.

King Yo'ash did not remember the kindness that his father Yehoyada had shown him, and he killed his son. And as he died, he said, 'May יהוה see and demand retribution.'

At the turn of the year, the army of Aram came against him, and they came into Yehudah and Yerushalayim, and they destroyed all the officials of the people from among the people, and sent all their plunder to the king of Damascus.

For the army of Aram came with a few men, and יהוה gave into their hand a very great force, because they had forsaken יהוה, Elohim of their fathers. And they executed judgments upon Yo'ash.

As they departed from him, for they had left him in great sicknesses, his servants conspired against him because of the blood of the sons of Yehoyada the priest, and they killed him on his bed, and he died. They buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the tombs of the kings.

These are the ones who conspired against him: Zabad, son of Shim'at the Ammonite, and Yehózabad, son of Shomrit the Moabite.

And concerning his sons, and the great weight of the matter against him, and the foundation of the house of Elohim, behold, they are written in the commentary of the book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place.
