And in the seventh year, Yehoyada strengthened himself and took the captains of the hundreds, Azaryahu son of Yerokham, and Yishma'el son of Yehokhanan, and Azaryahu son of 'Oved, and Ma'aseyah son of 'Adayah, and 'Elishefa' son of Zikhri with him, in covenant.

And they went around in Yehudah and gathered the Levi'im from all the cities of Yehudah, and the heads of the fathers' houses of Yisra'el, and they came to Yerushalayim.

And all the assembly made a covenant in the house of Elohim with the king, and he said to them, 'Behold, the king's son will reign, as יהוה spoke concerning the sons of David.'

This is the command: one third of you who are on duty on the Sabbath shall go to the priests and to the Levi'im, the gatekeepers of the thresholds.

And one third at the king's house, and one third at the foundation gate, and all the people in the courtyards of the house of יהוה.

And no one shall enter the house of יהוה except the priests and the ministers of the Levi'im; they shall enter, for they are holy. And all the people shall keep the watch of יהוה.

And the Levi'im shall surround the king, each man with his weapons in his hand. And whoever enters the house shall be put to death. And you shall be with the king when he enters and when he goes out.

And the Levi'im and all Yehudah did according to all that Yehoyada the priest commanded. And each man took his men, those on duty on the Sabbath, with those going off duty on the Sabbath, for Yehoyada the priest had not dismissed the divisions.

And Yehoyada the priest gave the captains of the hundreds the spears, and the shields, and the bucklers that belonged to King David, which were in the house of Elohim.

And he stationed all the people, each man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the house to the left side of the house, by the altar and by the house, around the king.

And they brought out the king's son, and put on him the diadem, and the Testimony, and they made him king, and Yehoyada and his sons anointed him. And they said, 'Long live the king!'

And Athalyah heard the sound of the people running and praising the king. And she came to the people in the house of יהוה.

And she looked, and behold, the king was standing by his pillar at the entrance, and the captains and the trumpeters were by the king. And all the people of the land rejoiced and blew trumpets, and the singers with musical instruments and those who led praise. And Athalyah tore her clothes and said, 'Treason! Treason!'

And Yehoyada the priest brought out the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the army, and said to them, 'Bring her out through the colonnades, and whoever follows her shall be put to death with the sword.' For the priest had said, 'She shall not be put to death in the house of יהוה.'

And they laid hands on her, and she went to the entrance of the Horse Gate of the king's house, and they put her to death there.

And Yehoyada made a covenant between himself and all the people and the king, that they would be a people for יהוה.

And all the people went to the house of Ba'al and tore it down, and his altars and his images they broke in pieces, and they killed Mattan the priest of Ba'al before the altars.

And Yehoyada appointed the overseers of the house of יהוה into the hand of the priests, the Levi'im, whom David had assigned to the house of יהוה, to offer the burnt offerings of יהוה, as it is written in the Torah of Mosheh, with joy and with song, by the hand of David.

And he stationed the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of יהוה, and no one unclean in any matter was allowed to enter.

And he took the captains of the hundreds, and the nobles, and the rulers of the people, and all the people of the land, and he brought the king down from the house of יהוה. And they came through the upper gate into the king's house, and they seated the king on the throne of the kingdom.

And all the people of the land rejoiced, and the city was quiet. And they put Athalyah to death with the sword.
