And Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of יהוה his Elohim.

And he removed the altars of the foreigners and the high places, and he broke the pillars, and he cut down the Asherah poles.

And he commanded Yehudah to seek יהוה the Elohim of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.

And he removed from all the cities of Yehudah the high places and the sun pillars, and the kingdom was quiet before him.

And he built cities of fortification in Yehudah, because the land was quiet, and there was no war with him in these years, because יהוה had given him rest.

And he said to Yehudah, 'Let us build these cities and surround them with a wall and towers, doors and bars, while the land is still before us, because we have sought יהוה our Elohim; we have sought, and he has given us rest all around.' And they built and succeeded.

And Asa had an army carrying shields and spears from Yehudah, three hundred thousand; and from Binyamin, shield bearers and archers, two hundred and eighty thousand. All these were mighty warriors.

And Zerach the Kushite came out against them with an army of one million and three hundred chariots, and he came as far as Maresha.

And Asa went out before him, and they arrayed for war in the valley of Zephathah at Maresha.

And Asa cried out to יהוה his Elohim and said, 'יהוה, there is none besides you to help between the mighty and the powerless. Help us, יהוה our Elohim, because on you we have relied, and in your name we have come against this multitude. יהוה our Elohim, you are; let no mortal prevail against you.'

And יהוה struck the Kushites before Asa and before Yehudah, and the Kushites fled.

And Asa and the people who were with him pursued them as far as Gerar, and the Kushites fell so that there was no one left alive for them, because they were broken before יהוה and before his camp. And they carried off a very great amount of plunder.

And they struck all the cities around Gerar, because the fear of יהוה was upon them, and they plundered all the cities, because there was great plunder in them.

And they also struck tents of livestock and carried off sheep and goats in abundance, and camels, and returned to Yerushalayim.
