And the young boy Shemu'el served יהוה before Eli, and the word of יהוה was precious in those days; there was no widespread vision.

And it happened on that day, Eli was lying in his place, and his eyes began to dim; he could not see.

And the lamp of Elohim was not yet extinguished, and Shemu'el was lying in the temple of יהוה, where the ark of Elohim was.

And יהוה called Shemu'el, and he said, 'Here I am.'

And he ran to Eli and said, 'Here I am, because you called me.' And he said, 'I did not call; return, lie down.' And he went and lay down.

And יהוה called again, Shemu'el. And Shemu'el got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, because you called me.' And he said, 'I did not call, my son; return, lie down.'

And Shemu'el did not yet know יהוה, and the word of יהוה had not yet been revealed to him.

And יהוה called Shemu'el a third time. And he got up and went to Eli and said, 'Here I am, because you called me.' And Eli understood that יהוה was calling the young boy.

And Eli said to Shemu'el, 'Go, lie down. And if he calls you, you shall say, 'Speak, יהוה, because your servant is listening.'' And Shemu'el went and lay down in his place.

And יהוה came and stood, and called as before, 'Shemu'el, Shemu'el!' And Shemu'el said, 'Speak, because your servant is listening.'

And יהוה said to Shemu'el, 'Behold, I am doing a thing in Yisra'el, at which both ears of anyone who hears it will tingle.'

On that day, I will carry out against Eli all that I have spoken concerning his house, from beginning to end.

And I will tell him that I am judging his house forever, because of the iniquity which he knew; his sons cursed themselves, and he did not restrain them.

And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli: If the iniquity of the house of Eli can be atoned for by sacrifice or offering, forever.

And Shemu'el lay down until morning, and he opened the doors of the house of יהוה. And Shemu'el was afraid to tell the vision to Eli.

And Eli called Shemu'el and said, 'Shemu'el, my son.' And he said, 'Here I am.'

And he said, 'What is the thing that he spoke to you? Please do not hide it from me. May Elohim do so to you and so add to it, if you hide from me anything of the thing that he spoke to you.'

And Shemu'el told him all the words and did not hide them from him. And he said, 'It is יהוה; let him do what is good in his eyes.'

And Shemu'el grew, and יהוה was with him, and did not let any of his words fall to the ground.

And all Yisra'el knew, from Dan to Beer-Sheva, that Shemu'el was confirmed as a prophet of יהוה.

And יהוה continued to appear in Shiloh, because יהוה revealed himself to Shemu'el in Shiloh by the word of יהוה.
