And Hannah prayed and said, My heart exults in יהוה; my horn is exalted in יהוה. My mouth is wide open against my enemies, because I rejoice in Your deliverance.

There is no one holy like יהוה; indeed, there is none besides You, and there is no rock like our Elohim.

Do not multiply speaking arrogant words; let haughtiness come from your mouth, for יהוה is an Elohim of knowledge, and by Him deeds are weighed.

The bows of the mighty are broken, and those who stumbled are girded with strength.

Those who were full hire themselves out for bread, and those who were hungry cease. Even the barren gives birth to seven, but she who has many children languishes.

יהוה brings death and gives life; He brings down to Sheol and raises up.

יהוה makes poor and makes rich; He humbles and He exalts.

He raises the poor from the dust; He lifts the needy from the ash heap to seat them with nobles and to give them a throne of honor. For the pillars of the earth are יהוה's, and He has set the world upon them.

He will guard the feet of His faithful ones, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness, for a person does not prevail by strength.

Those who contend with יהוה will be shattered; against them He will thunder in the heavens. יהוה will judge the ends of the earth; He will give strength to His king and exalt the horn of His anointed.

Then Elqanah went to Ramah, to his house. And the young man served יהוה before Eli the priest.

Now the sons of Eli were worthless men; they did not know יהוה.

And the priests' custom with the people was: when any man offered a sacrifice, the priest's servant would come, while the meat was boiling, with a three-pronged fork in his hand.

He would strike it into the pot, or the caldron, or the basin, or the pan; whatever the fork brought up, the priest would take for himself. Thus they did to all of Yisra'el who came there in Shilo.

Also, before the fat was burned, the priest's servant would come and say to the man who sacrificed, 'Give meat for roasting to the priest, for he will not accept boiled meat from you, only raw.'

And if the man said to him, 'They must first burn the fat, and then you may take whatever you want,' he would say, 'No, but now you shall give it, or else I will take it by force.'

Thus the sin of the young men was very great before יהוה, for the men treated the offering of יהוה with contempt.

But Shemu'el was ministering before יהוה, wearing a linen ephod.

And his mother made him a little robe and brought it to him from year to year when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

And Eli blessed Elqanah and his wife, saying, May יהוה give you offspring from this woman in place of the one she asked of יהוה. And they went to their home.

And יהוה visited Hannah, and she conceived and bore three sons and two daughters. And the young man Shemu'el grew before יהוה.

Now Eli was very old, and he heard all that his sons were doing to all Yisra'el, and how they lay with the women who served at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

And he said to them, Why do you do such things as these, which I hear from all these people about you? These are bad things.

No, my sons, for the report that I hear the people of יהוה spreading is not good.

If a man sins against a man, Elohim will mediate for him. But if a man sins against יהוה, who will intercede for him? But they did not listen to the voice of their father, for יהוה had determined to put them to death.

And the young man Shemu'el continued to grow, and he was in favor both with יהוה and with men.

And a man of Elohim came to Eli and said to him, Thus says יהוה, Did I not clearly reveal Myself to the house of your father when they were in Mitsrayim, subject to Pharaoh's house?

And I chose him out of all the tribes of Yisra'el to be My priest, to offer sacrifices on My altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before Me. And I gave to your father's house all the fire offerings of the children of Yisra'el.

Why then do you kick at My sacrifice and My offering, which I commanded in My dwelling place? And why do you honor your sons more than Me, to make yourselves fat with the first of every offering of Yisra'el, My people?

Therefore the utterance of יהוה, Elohim of Yisra'el, is: I said indeed that your house and the house of your father would walk before Me forever. But now the utterance of יהוה is: Far be it from Me! For those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.

Behold, days are coming when I will cut off your arm and the arm of your father's house, so that there will not be an old man in your house.

And you will look on in distress at all the prosperity that will be bestowed on Yisra'el, and there will not be an old man in your house all the days.

And I will not cut off from My altar anyone from your house, to make your eyes fail and to grieve your soul. And all the increase of your house will die by the sword.

And this will be the sign to you that will come upon your two sons, upon Ḥofni and Pinhasi: on the same day they will both die.

And I will raise up for Myself a faithful priest who will do according to what is in My heart and My mind. And I will build him a lasting house, and he will walk before My anointed one all the days.

And everyone remaining in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread, and will say, Please attach me to one of the priestly duties that I may eat a piece of bread.
